Sam I Am
A few weeks ago I lost my wonderful mare . It was heartbreaking as I had had her for so many years and of course there were many tears flowing in our house . Anyone that says animals show no empathy, caring and loss as far as I am concerned belongs on another planet. While shedding copious amounts of tears Sam and Rosie would not leave my side. I was smothered by two dogs licking my face, whimpering and madly trying to comfort me. Both obviously very upset at their uprights sadness. These little dogs become such an integral part of our lives. Sharing our grief and happiness. No wonder we feel devastated when they die...it’s losing one of our own pack. Kathryn
What a beautiful horse...and condolences on your loss. I was just thinking today how close a companion Oban has become to me, and how I don't think I could ever feel lonely with a dog in my life. It makes so much sense that Rosie and Sam would care for you, and worry about your sorrow. It is hard to lose the animals in our lives -- it would be harder still never to have them.

Hard to lose your horse friend that's for sure. Lucky to have had her with you for so long. All my dogs have known my feelings -happy they are happy - in pain or sadness they come over to "fix" things by sitting close, licking, looking.............. I think animals know more about us than we are often aware of - especially our emotions.

pkcrossley
the loss of a horse is an immense, immense event, with complexities that don't apply to other domestic animals. i am very sorry for your loss and fully sympathize --i lost my own beautiful quarterhorse mare on nov 12, aged 33, after 17 years in my care, a couple days after this picture. your girl was a real beauty! everything you say about the sympathy of dogs and the support they try to offer is true. they know so much, and it turns out, they really do care! 2

pkcrossley
thanks so much. she was actually very spry and doing great until last march, when there was a sudden onset of symptoms that proved to be a brain tumor. she had a glorious autumn. only a year before we lost her great companion, then aged 38. your girl looks like a thoroughbred. such a beauty.
