josie&holly
Sorry have not been on for a while but I am fine, enjoying hearing again thanks to my Cochlear Implant 11mths ago! And Ivy? She is fine - three and half now, and still very loving and lovable! Here in UK we have had very very very very hot weather for weeks now! The heat at 25c and above does not suit me at all. Ivy at first was happy to go lay in the sun though I would bring her in, but now she brings herself in as she must have decided she is too hot. She just wants to sleep during the day. We have taken to going for a very short walk early morning and then again in the evening. I took her round to my friends the other day and she had a short play with the whippet but they both gave up quickly and took to the shade. I find myself annoyed when see folk walking there dogs early afternoon when it is so hot and sunny. I even find it hard work going in car [though that has excellent air conditioning] to shop. There are regular reports on the news about people leaving dogs in their cars and the dogs have either died or have been at Vets for recovery. So I don't know how you all cope with your Cairns when you have the heat and humidity in summer! Quote www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
josie&holly
Oh, and one of your newspapers has commented on our weather! Clumber Park that is mentioned is somewhere I take Ivy for walks [when cooler! https://www.newyorker.com/news/letter-from-the-uk/the-british-heat-wave-and-aerial-archeology Edited August 6, 2018 by josie&holly Quote www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
hheldorfer
Wonderful to hear from you, Josie! That article was quite interesting. It's been hot and dry here too, but we're accustomed to it at this time of year. Hope you and Ivy get a break soon!
sanford
The humidity is horrible here and the heat index for today will be 100 degrees. We walk outside only in the AM and at night when it's more bearable. Our mid-day walks are very brief and exclusively on the shady side of the street. Ruffy loves to spend his entire day on my terrace, and the door is always slightly ajar for him, but it gets full sun all day,, so it has been off limits these days, except early AM and nights, and of course, he doesn't understand these changes in routine, I read online that many Brits turn on the AC, (if they have them), when temps reach a mere 70 degrees. They seem to tolerate heat even less than I do!🙃 I don't think I'll ever get accustomed to it. The article in Josie & Holly's post states that "...Britain endured 16 consecutive days when the temperature reached 82 degrees." Endured?... C'mon... In NYC 82 degrees in Summer is considered average and no big deal! What's with the Brits? I thought they were a hardy race. We are well into the 21st century and they still lag behind with air conditioning🤔. Hmmm... Edited August 6, 2018 by sanford 1 Quote FEAR THE CAIRN! josie&holly
Ha Ha Sanford! Think your USA paper laid it on a bit! We are a hardy race but just not used to summers like this, usually we get it for a few days not weeks and then it is a normal wet cool summer! But I personally find the heat too much as do many who have various health problems. As for the dogs, some do not seem to worry but my friends whippet seems to suffer more from the heat than Ivy does so think the Cairn coat helps. also see https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/aug/06/uk-weather-to-stay-warmer-than-average-until-october Quote www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk

I'm one who thinks the full cairn coat serves a useful purpose even in the heat. Raking out winter's excess undercoat probably feels good, though. In our local area we didn't have a winter this year to speak of. As for summer it will be in the 90's today so we are definitely having a summer. We are blessed with relatively low humidity compared to what I grew up with in New England so you'll not hear me complaining about anything weather-wise We are hoping for temps in the 70-80 range for our Toto Trot this Saturday 🤞 Quote CAIRNTALK: Questions? Sam I Am
Alberta is a province of extreme temps....next few days will be around 33C [92F] . Lived here most of my life and still find these extremes difficult.
