Feeding for Puppy

Hi all,

I am curious how many times a day you feed your pups. Trina Joy is going on 9 mo. I am in the process of switching her dry kibble over the last few weeks. Since a pup, she has eaten Nutrilife Solid Gold Plus All Stages food. I am moving her to Merrick Grain Free Real Duck and Sweet Potato dry food. I mix 1/2 and 1/2 and she is given food in AM and PM. I give her 1 cup a day. However, in the AM, she does not seem eager to eat and barks at her food or makes a game of it.

I don't know if I am feeding her too much, if I should make the full switch over now to Merrick to see if she likes it better, or if I should only feed her once per day. Ideas?

Thanks! :)

Pepper and Brodie (9 months) and Teddy get fed 2x a day - Pepper and Brodie get 1/4 cup Natural Balance Potato & Duck (no peas!!!) 2x a day for nice solid poops!!!  No itching either.  Teddy the Yellow Lab gets 1 1/4 cups 2x a day.  I also add Missing Link supplement as well.

Hmm, so if my math serves me right a scant 1/4 twice a day is 1/2 which is what I am giving Trina. Hmm, why won't she eat for me? I'm a litte worried. But, she is eating her treats!

Phinney is 1 1/2 yrs. old and weighs 18 lbs.  He gets 1/2 c. in the AM again in the PM and is in really good condition.  No fat on that boy, he runs it all off!  What your dog needs might be different based on her weight, level of activity and the protein content of the food you feed.  I noticed that when I switched the flavor of food we fed Phinney once, he was starved all the time.  Sure enough, while still a good food, the new flavor had lower protein.

So cute - while I am reading this - I hear plastic bags rumpling ... Dempsy is checking out the grocery bags on the floor.  I love that when he does that. I guess he thinks he needs a snack.  Sweet boy.

2 and 1/2 year old Rocky gets 1/4 cup of food a.m. and p.m.  And 1 year old Gus is getting 1/2 cup plus 1/2  of a 5.5 oz can a day. Gus is very active and burns his calories, Rocky prefers to sleep most of the day.

Corn Niblet: I get a kick out of Rocky sleeping and Gus being active :)

Flatpick: Piper sounds a lot like Trina. Trina is crazy and goes all the time! She runs so fast in circles in the yard. She could give a rabbit a run for their money; she almost caught one :)

Thank you!
