A Good Day

Dempsy's Mom

Recommended Posts

About a month ago Dempsy was having some real struggles.  Poor little guy was having such pain in his legs.  We did x-rays and it showed the arthritis on his front leg and we already knew that he has scaring on his spine and once in a while his back legs will give out.  We did a blood panel and all showed normal.  He did have a little urine infection.  We put him on some different pain pills, but still the best one is Gabapentin.  He has gotten a lot better.  He is happy now and still likes to egg Elsie into a good wrestling match - which I was delighted to see. They wrestle together till Demps gets hurt and then he limps off, but he is happy.  He still makes a mad dash to the window to bark at Jim going by in the loader and he loves his gator rides out to bark at the cows. So all is still fine but my heart is heavy.  We get the most out of every day but there is a new meaning to my hugs.  A heavier meaning to my kisses.  More love to my caresses.  I listen more intently to his little breathing.  I spend more time letting him know that he is so very special.

Oh Lori I hope Dempsey is with you for a long time to come. It is so difficult to see a decline in their health.  I am so happy though that he is still active and obviously still has that Cairnish attitude.💕 What a wonderful, life Demps and Elsie have on your farm.

Beautiful video, Lori.  From what I can see it looks like Demps is still Farm Manager and won't be giving up the job any time soon.  God bless all of you.  What a fantastic life you have given Demps and Elsie.

"We get the most out of every day." The Cairn Terrier motto

Living with an aging cairn is so bittersweet. But clearly Demps enjoys his life.  And what a life he has! You have given him daily the kinds of experiences cairns dream of.

Give him a hug and cuddle from me too.

Well Dempsey, maybe you have a bit of a limp now and then but I see you are still well able to do your job out there. And with Elsie's able assistance we hope that will be the way for a good while yet.

Loved the video thanks for posting

i know what you mean. it's a special time, but not an easy one. you've seen that there are remedies and strategies that can give you and Dempsy the most you can get. that is all it is ever about. keep on chugging, Dempsy!

Thanks for this wonderful video, Lori... It makes you just want to kiss those little faces!

P.S. I took gabapentin for a while and as the dose increased over time, it made me more and more sleepy. This was not the worst thing, but l'm only pointing it out, in case you should notice this reaction in Dempsy.

Thank you all for chiming in.  Dempsy had a bath yesterday and today I trimmed him up a bit.  He likes all the attention.  We will be leaving for 10 days at the end of February so that adds extra worry.  They won't be able to be kenneled together, but they will be right next to each other.  I chose to kennel with the vets office due to their familiarity with Demps and his needs.  Spring is just around the corner and that always brings hope and lifts spirits.

Thank you for that beautiful video! I really enjoyed it. Glad to hear that Dempsy is doing well. If I didn't know that was Dempsy,  I would say it was my Rocky. They could be brothers they look so much alike.

So fun to see videos of Dempsy! I hope that he stays pain-free for a very long time to come. He's such a joy to watch. Elsie is a sweetheart as well.
