He certainly is a plucky little guy. He had me chuckling and rolling my eyes three times in the last fourteen hours!

Dorky dog went under my bed room curtain to lay on the pillow I have under the windowsill for him, and got stuck under it. He laid down and grunted complaints until I took it off his head. I took a photo first. 😁

Nikki also gets doofus points for getting manure stuck in his paws and doing some humongous kicks across the rug in protest while he was eating his dinner inside the house (he couldn’t tell me about his feet before he walked all over the house?).

And the best one...

We went out to Sonic for dinner last night and put Nikki in the car. I ended up chatting in the driveway with my relative for a while, but I left one side door open for air for Nikki since it was 59 degrees out.  He got impatient and fussily bounced around in his car hammock. I looked over when I heard his movements just in time to see him take a nosedive off the bucket seat and get stuck between the seat, his car leash, and the closed van door. I saw his back feet pedalling in the air. 😂 I ran over and opened the door and picked him up and untangled him. Poor old guy was crying xD And rather smelly, too. His fall and getting stuck upside down scared some wind out of him.

Triple points for that one, little dude. My aunt wonders why I’m a helicopter parent with my dog. It’s because I never know when he’s going to do something smart and amuse me or do something stupid like acting like a donkey in a car he’s been riding in for over a decade. 😂

By the way, his body is too long for a small or medium plastic carrier, so we’ve been using a car hammock and car harness and a short leash clipped between the back seat headrests with a large climber’s ring so he can move in and out of his bed to cool off when we travel. He gets super hot and stays hyper in carriers, and the way our van is designed, we would have to fold the backseats down into the narrow storage well in the back to fit a dog cage into the back. The seats are heavy and hard to lift back up so we have never bothered with getting a cage for car travel. Nikki has been fine traveling in his harness, foam bed, and hammock for over a decade. Yesterday’s incident was the first time he’s ever gotten impatient while I was standing right outside the car and fallen off the seat and upended himself. It was humorous but it also scared me seeing him struggling and crying with his short flat leash pulled up under his armpit and belly, so I will not be leaving him alone in the car in the future.  I’m hoping this was a lesson learned for Nikki but it was also a reminder that being leashed in a car can become dangerous quickly. When we get a dog in the future, I think I will look for a way to crate him/her to prevent future leash and hammock fiascos.

So what's wrong with that?

Just yesterday, Ruffy managed to wedge himself behind and under a storage chest in pursuit of a treat ball. Extracting him meant moving the heavy chest and chair in front of it. Instead, I opted for (gently) grasping his tail and easing him back out and under as he grunted his complaint to this offense to his dignity!😱
