Country at Heart

Dempsy's Mom

Recommended Posts

We have been to the new house a couple of weekends now.  Elsie found a hole under the fence and was in the neighbors yard almost immediately.  Little stinker.  The house has the same ground cover (Snow on the Mountain) as the farm does and Dempsy nestled in and it soothed his nerves.  We haven't had much fun there yet.  We are mostly getting stuff in order.  I don't think Demps and Els are city slickers ... I think they want to stay country bumpkins.  We have been calving and getting ready for harvest.  IMG_1519.thumb.JPG.c31a0a0ea717ae0a9181253586440ce1.JPGIMG_1518.thumb.JPG.c0375da1e8dc797db5843440ccea6c34.JPG

We are having some hail, high winds, tornado warning - nasty out.  Demps and Els are on the couch with me and we are watching.  Warning is till 9:30.  Maybe we won't have much of a harvest after this. 😐 Kitty just came in to join us.  Jim is running around outside trying to see the tornado.  Craziness.

It is nuts this year.  Hail stopped.  A lot of rain, thunder and lightening.  TV out.  Neighbors are calling.  Jim is chatting on the phone.  Dempsy got off the couch for a drink.

That storm was all worn out by the time it got here - lots of noise and lightning but no hail and just a half inch of rain. Enough noise, though, that Oban insisted on going to the basement. Steve went out on the daybed on our screen porch to enjoy the fireworks...

Hope your crops are okay...

That would be my personal choice also! How lovely your farm is.....so why live in the city? The pups obviously love their freedom.

Yes they love the farm and are spoiled rotten.  Why town - mostly age.  The farm is a lot of work and it's nice to have a safe spot ... hopefully it will be a couple years before we actually  move.  My little house is such a blessing - it is the cutest little place and gives me comfort.  We had some couches delivered yesterday and Elsie and I were in town.  Elsie loves the squirrels - we don't have squirrels on the farm.  Hopefully we can get in some fall town walks.  Little Demps is having a problem with his front leg - so we go for lots of gator rides.

Yes I get it. Age is a definite issue when hard physical labour and long hours start to take their toll or will take its toll. No doubt Demps and Elsie will make the change just fine ...as long as their uprights are with them, it's all good.

Jim must be a long lost relative.  We lived in Arkansas for many years.  Tornado warnings to us means going outside and looking...but when you hear the train, get your butt inside!!!

Now that we are in FL the tornado's are tiny little things that we don't bother with.

Kirby and Phinney share Dempsey's feelings.  We're traveling in an RV and have been stuck in Spokane for a week with generator issues.  We've spent a lot of city time and they do not care for the traffic, cars, sidewalk walking (they have to behave like civilized dogs instead of wild farm terriers) and noise.  The time spent hiking has been good but we can't do that every day.  It's been cold and rainy here!
