Yuck!  Now I am a bit worried, we have rabbits around our area and often one can be found in our backyard.  Maisie will bark at them and chase them away but they always leave behind droppings....:(

Does anyone know what this parasite is called? I watched and listened to the video several times, but could not make out what the vet said.

I'd like to look it up online and get more info.

All kidding aside I would like the name of that too as I couldn't understand it either.

Cuterebra, more commonly known as a Bot Fly (http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/infectious-parasitic/c_multi_cuterebrosis).

I once listened to a Radiolab episode where a guy out of curiosity let one hatch out of his scalp. He sort of bonded with it and was sad when it died after emerging.

No thanks.

Interesting. Our horses here are driven crazy by bot flies laying eggs on the horses front legs. The horses then scratch their legs with their mouthes, the eggs travel to their stomach where they hatch and cause a lot of problems with colic (colic being the number one killer in horses) so we always have to worm after the first heavy frost. If this is the same parasite as in the dog video, they don't come out under the horses skin. It's all disgusting really..what purpose can theses yucky things serve in the big picture of things.
