Popular Post Sam I Am
Well here they are, five weeks old. I won't know for a while which one will belong to us, but they are all lovely, healthy babies. I could have taken them all. 11 Quote Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Sam I Am
We are having a devil of a time naming him. I originally liked Jack, my DH said it was to close to Jocks name. So I thought Mick, but now I am leaning towards Brin. Suggestions? 1 Quote Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Idaho Cairns
Here you go! Personally I like Dubh!http://www.namenerds.com/scottish/gaelicdude.html
Sam I Am
Wow there are some real tongue twister there Chuck! I think my Scottish grandad would have trouble pronouncing some of them. There are a few on the "English" side I rather like. Thanks! Dempsy's Mom
They are so sweet - don't they just radiant confidence? Smart little pups. Names are hard, but you will stumble upon the right one - maybe you want to wait till he's home a while - his mannerisms will enlighten you. 3 Quote Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
hheldorfer
They look positively adorable (and positively capable of causing major havoc). Love them all!
Lynn in TN
That makes me want them all! Too cute, I can hardly stand it. That makes me want to go in search of a Cairn puppy for myself. I Love a lot of those names.
Hillscreek
Lovely pups. Is one of them red? The pup may name himself after he has been home with you a few days. At least that's what I have found in the past. I'd go through all the what to name him/her stuff. Then after puppy would be around a few days a name would pop right out. Sometimes the harder one tries for a name the harder it is to find one one. But once the little rascal is home then he names himself - and having written that I'd say Rascal might be a good name for any cairn boy pup!
remltr
Taking some inspiration from what has already been posted: Major McHavoc and Rascal McRascal are my two favorites. Got to have the Mc in there for authentic Scottish naming. 6 Quote Sassy Jan 22, 2005 AM. CH. THARRBARR LITE MY FIRE ZOMERHOF

We have a couple of dogs running around campus one named General Nuisance and the other named Major Disaster.
Sam I Am
Hillcreek, yes a female pup is red and the breeder is keeping her. Love all the names ...I noticed a lot of them are names one would give a Tasmanian devil. 3 Quote Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Hillscreek
I would keep her too terrierlover. Red is my favorite cairn color - so northern somehow. You don't see so many red or red brindle ones around. People have told me the red coat is very hard to keep looking good for show. I know with Angus his coat looked and I guess still looks SO different as to the way the light fell on it according to time of day or time of year.

Malcolm's Dad
What a cute bunch of puppies. Wait till you get him home and observe his personality. He might be called Snuggles or Tas for Tasmanian Devil. Edited May 23, 2017 by Malcolm's Dad
Sam I Am
The breeder told me that the dark coat is a puppy coat and they will shed that. I didn't know that. I don't remember Jock having that but then he was 12 weeks old when we got him. 1 Quote Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Hillscreek
With Angus it was not a whole coat. It was more a covering of long dark hairs. He was twelve weeks old when I got him and yes they did fall out fairly soon. It might not show up so much on a dark cairn. It was easy to see over Angus's red coat.
Kathryn
Gosh, what I have learned over 35 years of owning cairns : never care too much what color your dogs are. They will change anyway every few years for the rest of their lives... Edited May 25, 2017 by Kathryn
kjwarnold
All of our Cairns have been cream or cream wheaten so we've never seen a lot of color change. Phinney is red though, and I've noticed that if I don't keep him stripped, the red disappears a bit and more wheaten comes out. It's the same with his dark muzzle, I have to keep it pulled. I love his red and dark points, so it's good incentive to keep up with his grooming. I've always thought it was cool how Cairns can change colors, especially the brindled. Congrats on your new puppy to come! 3 Quote Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
