I assume Dempsey served on the advisory board for this program :)

The AKC is pleased to announce a new program called the Farm Dog Certified (FDC) test. Dogs will work through a series of 12 exercises that represent situations they may come across in a farm environment, and must display trainability, self-control, confidence and trust in their owner throughout the experience.

About the Test

The test is a non-competitive pass/fail evaluation designed to assess the overall conduct of a dog. The dog must demonstrate self-control when exposed to livestock and other unique sights, sounds and scents.  The dog should exhibit confidence and a willingness to comply with instructions when confronted with a variety of situations within farm type surroundings. For more information about the test exercises, visit the Farm Dog Certified Test page in the Events section here

I believe both Dempsy and Elsie spearheaded the effort to establish this certification.  The first evaluation involves 'calf tending'. :P

  • bradl changed the title to Farm Dog Certification

Just send in a video compilation, Lori. Tell them Demps and Els are too busy tending and managing the farm to pretend to tend and manage a farm. That cert will be in the mail. ;)

Another idea:  During the off-season on the farm (if there is one), Demps and Els could make a little extra cash by teaching FDC classes!:P

Yep this does look like the work of Dempsy and Elsie. The certification papers may have their paw prints on them.
