Mum can breath a happy sigh and Rosie can smile

Just got back from a company that runs out of Vancouver bc, that do dog and cat teeth cleaning without anesthetic. It worked out great I must say. They are trained by a veterinarian to hand scale and clean teeth. I was apprehensive because you do hear bad stories and no doubt a lot of vets would not approve (mine included ...yikes) but I did my research and a friend had used them earlier on and was thrilled with results. I was free to watch from a distance as long as Rosie couldn't see me and it was amazingly non invasive. These gals knew what they were doing. They also tell their clients if the dogs needs to have dental work done under anesthetic by their own vet, if loose, brown or infected teeth are found. Rosie's teeth were in pretty awesome shape except for the back molars, which I have trouble getting at. After the cleaning they showed me how to get at the back of the molars and the inside of the molars also. She now has gleaming pearly teeth with out having to go under. I am a happy girl. :)

I must also add that i had initially had my vets techs hand scale the teeth, although they did a good job on the front teeth they never touched the molars. Hence the reason I went to these people.

I never heard of dog cleaning without an anesthetic. Sounds like you made a great discovery, Terrier Lover. I am glad that both you and Rosie left happy! :D (and with Rosie's teeth gleaming!)

Its a good alternative as long as your dog is regularly checked by a vet to make sure nothing is being missed. Rosie's teeth and gums  are in great shape as they were checked at my clinic but did need the tartar removed . I know most vets except the holistic ones are totally against this, and I get that as its not regulated  , however I trust my own knowledge, did the research and it worked out great plus costing a fraction of what full blown anesthetic type cleaning costs with far less risk. I will break it gently to my vet at our next appointment. They are holistic bent so I dont think there will be an issue plus of course if there is ever a need to put her under anesthetic for any teeth issues, it will be done. I am hoping that with my daily brushing and yearly cleanings, and vet checks, her teeth will stay in good shape.
