Designating a specific spot to pee

Hello, how important is it to designate a specific spot to pee/poop in the yard? We have a 10 week Cairn (Sydney) and have been potty training for 2 weeks. We're using a crate, but from my reading here not quite as diligently as we should so I will correct this. We live in the country and have a large yard. So far, we have been just happy when we get her outside. Let alone to a specific spot. Will to confuse her if we don't have a specific spot in rather yard?

If Sandy is taken to a specific area in the beginning she  will smell where she's been potty before and that will encourage her to go. Praise her when she goes.
