Dempsy's Mom
Elsie shoving poor old Dig off her bed & she lets her because Digger is a gentle giant.Digger finally get her bed back. She is enjoying a good nap without being disturbed by the little sister Elsie and little brother Dempsy and then mom sticks a camera in my face. Really? .... Digger goes back to her snooze. But that doesn't last long. Dempsy hears Digger enjoying a snack and comes to steal it away from her. Which he does, but mom catches him and returns the snack back to Digger. Popular Post Dempsy's Mom
Digger came to the farm in 2007. A little after I lost Tater. My daughter told me not to run out and get a dog just to replace Tater. I didn't, I stopped at the humane society one day, just to look around. There were many dogs. I walked through. Digger was the last dog in the kennel to the left. She just sat there. She didn't beg for attention. She was thin and her tits were hanging on the floor. She was in pathetic shape. I walked out of the society and got in the car. I thought about the old dog in the last kennel. Who in their right mind would adopt her? I found myself going back in and asked the lady if I could spend some time with the old dog in the last kennel to the left. I asked the gal how old they thought she was and she thought about 71/2-8 yrs. She leash her and we walked out to the little grass area they had. The old dog had no interest in me. She would take a scratch or two but then she was off for sniffs. I must of spent about an hour there just watching her. I decided we had room at the farm for this dog. I loaded her up in the back seat of the car and away we went. She dug in the back seat for most the way home - that's why I named her Digger. (Plus she was a golden lab, so I thought "Gold Digger") When we arrived home, Jim was at the shop, and I opened the back door and out jumped this skinny wayward creature. Jim about had a cow. "What are you going to do with that?!" I introduced him to Digger. The next month was trying. Digger knew nothing, was not a tidy dog and ran. She would just take off in a run. This was new to me - I had never had a runner before. So I ran after her more times than I can remember. Finally after a couple of weeks it just stopped. She didn't run anymore. She was introduced to farm life and eventually the house. She gained weight and became a beautiful looking golden lab. She still has quirks. Personally I think she was a breeder dog. So Dig was our only child for 2 years before I brought home little Demps. Dig accepted Demps. Then came Elsie. Oh alright, she accepted Elsie too. And now Wert - and Wert and Digger get along great. So I don't know if Digger so much enjoys her siblings, but she accepts them and I can tell that she loves them. Just like any large family, sibling can be pain in the butts but Digger would miss them and they will miss Digger. 12 Quote Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori

Dempsy's Mom
Wert came in the entry this morning. I was making eggs for Jim and did not see him sneak into the kitchen. When I turned around he was sitting by Jim's elbow. I told him he needed to get out of the kitchen and back to the entry. While escorting him back, I looked at Digger's face. Digger had a very disgusted & defeated look. Like he was saying, "I have been here 7 years and I never got in the kitchen! And now you let this stray roam the house? Elsie steals my bed, Dempsy steals my snacks and now Wert is worming his way into the house. I have no respect at all!" I went over and gave him a scratch. "Ya, like that little scratch is supposed to sooth my soul." Poor old Dig. 3 Quote Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
_whits_
What a sweet post about a sweet dog. Thank you for letting us know how Digger came to be on the farm and how he's adjusted to the menagerie. No wonder all sorts of critters find their way to you - rescues and strays hit the jackpot when they arrive thanks to your kind soul. Dempsy's Mom
Haha. I have to laugh. You guys paint me like some kind of saint, but I am not. It's just a way of life for me. I have been an animal lover my whole life, just like many of you. From day one. My mother started this by naming me after St. Francis of Assisi (Patron Saint of Animals) and believe me, she bit off more than she could chew by putting up with all the animals I drug around through out my childhood, adolescents & adulthood. St. Francis and I share the same birthday and the same deep love for animals. Thanks mom for planting the seed of passion. Malcolm's Dad
I love hearing about your farm and your pets. Demps is stealing treats from Digger, something Demps seems to do all the time. I remember Buffy stealing treats from Ziggy. Elsie likes to steal the bed, something Elsie seems to do all the time. Digger is so gentle and has a kind hearted soul. You really do have a soft spot in your heart for animals. I enjoy hearing about your adventures with the pets and seeing from afar the love you have for them.
Dempsy's Mom
You Did Me Kindness (author unknown) When my legs grew to weak to carry me And my tired eyes could no longer see, When it pained me to struggle for each new breath, When my heart grew weaker, And I drew closer to death, You did me the kindness of letting me go. You didn't make me hang on when I was suffering so. I promise I don't think you loved me any less, And I love you all the more for you selflessness. You freed my spirit from its body so wracked with pain, And let me run the fields in Heaven, Where I am sure we will meet again. Dempsy's Mom
I took her in this morning. There is no pain like it and I think a lot of it comes from you making the decision.
