mary martin
Thank you. That is where I got the names of the breeders I got in touch with. Over the years I was always told to buy a dog from a reputable breeder but they are not that easy to find. I'm sure I will find a cute cairn or two that I will give a new home to by the summer I hope. Hi, BigFanSue; My husband and I are having the same trouble finding a breeder. I went on the AKC site and found a list of breeders. I filled out two "request forms" and never even heard back from the breeders. I don't have an inkling why. My husband and I are semi-retired, have lots of time to lavish on our pet, have a fenced-in yard and are part time "dogparents" to a wonderful Cairn. We know and love the Cairn temperament. I'm just not sure where to turn next.

Strongly suggest the telephone in preference to email, and "going where the Cairns are" to get yourself in live contact with active breeders and exhibitors. Quote CAIRNTALK: Questions? lindasue
My cairn, Pegi, was from a breeder in Canada and I live in Mass. We actually met up at a rest stop while they were in CT at a dog show. Anyway, she's 5 and has been great (well, except for our recent problem when she ate an Advil, but that's another story)... We have a new neighbor who just moved in with 2 rescue cairns; they are both about 6-7 and are very healthy. He got them both from shelters. So there's some experience with both breeders and rescue dogs....both have been great. 1 Quote Linda & Pegi
mattoleriver
Along the lines of "going where the Cairns are" you may have luck finding reputable breeders through the regional Cairn Terrier clubs. To find a club nearer to home go to The Cairn Terrier Club of America website, click on "Membership", then click on "Affiliated Clubs". There are several regional clubs and many will have a list of breeders or a contact person within the club. Good luck.
Joan auguste
Where would I rescue a cairn from? My Rachel just passed. Almost 16 and I am devastated. I bought her in a dog store on Long Island. Probably puppy mill but she was the best and very healthy. Miss her more than I can say. Would consider a rescue or will look for a breeder. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Joan
bradl
Sorry about your loss of Rachel. Cairns become so much a part of our lives. Since direct referrals and endorsements are out-of-scope for CairnTalk we rely on indirect methods. If a member has a tip for you, they will PM (message) you privately. Additionally there are some links to external resources at the footer of each page that can be helpful. In addition to the Cairn Rescue search link and the national club (CTCA) breeder referral link, you might also check with the regional clubs. Although just now I see that the CTCA's link to the most likely club, Housatonic, has gone stale; perhaps check their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HousatonicCairnTerrierClub/ 1 1 Quote CAIRNTALK: Questions?
