Hillscreek Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 http://s1242.photobu...mview=slideshow Beavers are getting ready for winter near us. If you look carefully you can see all the branches they have brought on the creek. They anchor these to the lodge under water so they can reach them when the surface freezes. They do not hibernate. They use the small branches as food and the trunks to build their lodges. You can just make out the lodge on the edge of the bank - called a bank lodge as it is by a deep swift flowing stream and they will not need to dam the water. Couldn't zoom any close with my small camera. Angus was very interested. We walk here quite a bit but the tree cutting by the path is new.
tomatosandwich Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Cool! Keep a good watch, Angus! Don't let those beavers ever doubt you're watching!
Idaho Cairns Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Neat pictures of a Cairn in his natural element. Fortunately the beavers don't wander far for their construction material--I don't think I would like to see the results of a beaver/Cairn encounter, that could be a mess. Early winter is such a good time to walk these dogs, very few people about and lots of animals on prowl--keeps those terrier nose's to the ground.
josie&holly Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Lovely photos of a happy dog in great scenery! www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
Dempsy's Mom Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Beautiful pics. I like Angus's white tail. I also like the pic (3rd one I think) were you can barely see the outline of Angus in the brush. That would be fun walks. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
Sam I Am Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Angus looks like a little red fox in some of the pictures Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
DemiSheep Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Thanks for sharing! I live in a city called beaver creek, and I have not seen any beavers! This area used to have them of course. and I think there are some pockets of them here and there - once I graduate I'll have to go find them! Attila and Tessa would love that adventure. Our Cairns: Attila (Sprouted 03/09/11), Tessa (Sprouted 01/14/12)
tlwtheq Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I liked all the wonderful photos. The one with Angus running head-on into the camera with teeth bared made me chuckle! Really cool stuff about the beavers...we have them in more rural places here in Maryland...just don't usually see those places. Thanks! Max and Nelly
hheldorfer Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Thanks for sharing! I live in a city called beaver creek, and I have not seen any beavers! I know this is getting but we also have a nearby subdivision called Beaver Creek, built alongside a (you guessed it) creek with a healthy beaver population. Problem was once people started moving in they weren't so fond of the beavers because the beavers were messing with the nice landscaping. In the end it was humans - 1, beavers - 0.
_whits_ Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Alright Angus, Addie's mom here. I'm getting more and more shocked every time I see pictures of you. You have the same exact tail as Addie. Same. exact. tail. Addie and Angus have different faces (I think Angus' rightfully looks more manly) and weigh different (Addie is 20 pounds) but their color, coat, build, shape, tail . . . it's all exactly the same. So I think it goes without saying that I think Angus is one of the best looking Cairns I've ever seen. That looks like such a fun day he had. Does he want to eat the beavers? "as far as i am concerned cairns are the original spirit from which all terriers spring, and all terriers are cairns very deep down inside." pkcrossley
Hillscreek Posted December 9, 2012 Author Posted December 9, 2012 These tails are not often seen. Angus thinks Addie looks a lot like him, and with the tail she's special! He'd better stay away from the beavers. They weigh around 50-60 lbs or more and their teeth never stop growing!
kjwarnold Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Great pics! Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Hawkeye Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Angus is such a handsome guy, but hopefully he stays far away from the beavers. Nice pictures!
