Dempsy's Mom Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 http://youtu.be/QdgL2mPtlYE It was a great morning. The snow came down so nice and we haven't had any for so long. Very pretty. I took some pics of Demps and then I couldn't get them to shrink so I put them on a video. We have about 4" already and it is still snowing. It is wet sticky heavy snow. Tomorrow the wind is supposed to pick up (40 mph) and it's supposed to get cold. Demps likes to run out in it, make a couple of passes around and then come back in. Short little treks. Just enough for those little tiny snowballs to collect on his cute little butt. Then he warms up and he is ready to do it again. If he stayed out longer those little snowballs would be much bigger. Dempsy's Mom Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 It's dark now and we went out again. Demps is just loving these little in and outs. It's stopped snowing now and it is still and beautiful out. Here he is watching dad put the car in the garage. A couple times now Dempsy has chased the cat through these bushes and takes the string of lights with him on the way out. Poor lights are only half lit anymore. Oh well. The kitties always come up to the door at night and they love to chase and tease each other. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
hheldorfer Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 It looks very peaceful and pretty . . . and cold! DH and I were talking last night about the upcoming season of Cairn snowballs. Give Dempsy a warm hug from me.
Kathryn Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 A little snow this afternoon, but maybe 3 to 8 inches tomorrow night! Hope to practice my photography on snowy pups in the back yard on Sunday. Thanks everyone for the tips...I am keeping the camera on the kitchen counter and shooting photos often now. (Expect better cards next year, please...) Oh, and I love Demps' snowballs too...sooooo cute, Demps!
tlwtheq Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Lori, Love your posts. You and Dempsy and your family are treasures! Max and Nelly
Sam I Am Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Love the close up shot of Dempseys head by the wreath! I always wait in anticipation when I see post from you...always such a pleasure to see life on the farm with Demps. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
josie&holly Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Dempsey looks so cute in the snow! But please keep it over your side of Atlantic as as much as Holly loves it I dont! [just seeing your lights in photo reminded me that the other afternoon on our walk Holly stopped and growled when we reached a garden we pass regularly. Why? because they had a reindeer with flashing white lights!] www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
Autumn & Lola Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Lovely photos! The one with Dempsey and the wreath in the background is gorgeous. it would make a wonderful Christmas card.
kjwarnold Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I really wish we'd get some snow; it just boosts the Christmas feeling so much! But I'm not holding my breath. Maybe a few flakes tomorrow night, but it's just too warm here right now. Your pictures just made me sigh and say, "Aw, I want snow!" Great pics... Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Dempsy's Mom Posted December 8, 2012 Author Posted December 8, 2012 I agree, it really does promote the feeling of Christmas. I was all warm and fuzzy inside when it drifted down so quietly - about 4" on the ground, so white it hurts your eyes and you can't tell the ditch from the road - no wind this morning. 4-6 more inches forecasted tomorrow with the winds. So while we love to see the snow, we are so fickle when it comes to types of snowfall. So I am anxious to see what Demps thinks of the snowstorm that we will have tomorrow. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
Idaho Cairns Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 We are getting the first wave of a storm this morning--first corn snow and then the real stuff has started--pushed by an icy northwest wind--the girls were out but right back in. When and if the wind slows and the snow gets deeper they will beg to be let out. Now they are curled up with both sets of eyes on the slider--I suppose they know this will push the deer off the mountain and back into the yard.
Idaho Cairns Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Corn snow is hard granulated snow that falls in tiny pellets--snow, not ice (hail). Corn snow often proceeds the softer actual flake snow. Pretty common at this altitude.
Zekey's Mom Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Ah, thanks for the explanation. I'm near Philly, so I guess we're not high up enough to get corn snow. Gee, the things I never knew!
Hawkeye Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Wonderful pictures. I enjoyed seeing Demps checking out the snow fall. We had a couple of inches a couple of weeks ago but is all gone now. Love the snowball butt.
Ivy & Lucy's Mom Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Definitely a white Christmas for Dempsy this year. Love the pictures-thanks for sharing.
