It's Halloween Demps, not Easter.

Dempsy's Mom

We were just outside. Demps and I went in the kitty house to feed them. Demps was antagonizing something over in the kitties sleeping box in the corner. I went over to look and I saw what seemed to be a big orange cat .... I thought it was dead .... but as I got closer it was not a cat it was one of the chickens. She was lying flat as could be to get away from the annoying little furry beast that was pestering her. She flew off her nest of eggs and Demps and her ran out the door.

Meanwhile I gathered the eggs. I offered Dempsy one - to my surprise he took the egg with a quick greedy little snap, without breaking it, and ran off. Like he had a prize. I was wondering if he was going to break it and eat it or what. So I watched. He ran over to the bushes and ever so gently laid the unbroken egg in the leaves deep in the bush. He worked diligently with his nose in the leaves to cover his treasure up so noone would find it. "Noone will know where it is but me," his little selfish brain was saying.

So now I know what Demps will be for Halloween - an egg burglar.

That's hillarious! What the heck goes on in their little heads...

How cute! I think he was playing, "I'm a mama chicken." (Is that a hen? or is a hen a different type of chicken?) Yeah, I'm a city girl. :)

Hmmm...an egg burglar. I wanna see that one.

Maybe he was worried about ma running out of food again. Never hurts to have a stash.

Dempsy joins the legendary group of canines known as "Those egg sucking dogs!" who have a reputation of stealing things from nests! And as Demps is also a Wheaten Cairn, he moves up quite a few notches to the hierarchy of such rascals to be one of the "yellow egg sucking dogs" of yore. Demps!

It's always wise to have something put by in case your mom forgets to go shopping again Demps. Good thinking!

I am pretty sure my two - and especially T Bone - would have tried to eat that chicken rather than bothering with the eggs. But if given no choice, they definitely would have eaten the egg - immediately,

It's good to hear that Demps has some self control. I think that is a rare quality in a cairn terrier when presented with possible food OR possible prey.

I can picture him sneaking off with the egg, thinking he got the best prize ever. :P What a good boy for not even breaking the shell!

He's such a good boy. To coexist with smaller animals and to think a whole untouched egg as treasure. Your such a good mama to be raising a Cairn like that.

I can't take any credit on Dempsy's nature toward other animals. With the exception of mice - Demps has never been aggressive with animals other than barking and pretending he's a big shot. Bless him.

I think Dempsey is so cute and lovely!

Perhaps Demps thinks if he buries it, the Cadbury bunny will hatch out of the egg. Bunnies are so much fun to chase!
