Back in May I posted how I had adopted an 8 year old cairn from the Shelter and named her Maggie.

Here is a little update.

At the time I was wondering how Maggie would get along with my 13 year old Boxer, Caeser. Maggie seemed a little aggressive at first, but after only a few weeks of walking them together, they became very civil to one another. Ceaser was mostly deaf, and definetly a senior dog, but he was a very, very sweet dog to other dogs and people. Maggie, more or less tolerated Ceaser and occasionally would follow him around the back yard and such, but mostly maintaned a distance.

A month or so after bringing Maggie into our home, however, Ceaser started slowing down more and more..Maggie seemed to sense something was wrong, and I was suprised to occasionally find her laying next to him in his bed a few times when I came home. She sensed that Caeser wasn't well.

Eventually Caeser began to move less and less unless coaxed. He was very, very lethargic. My wife and I agreed after a very heart wrenching week of watching him go downhill alarmingly fast, to take him to the vet. Unfortunatly, there is little to do for a Boxer who reaches 13 years.

We felt it best to let Caeser rest, and had him put down. Really a very sad moment for my wife, my two boys and myself. Maggie even seemed to mourn for awhile.

Anyway, Maggie became mre and more used to her new home, and has really made herself a part of the family. She had severe separation anxiety when me or my wife would leave, but even that has mostly vanished. She's become a real cuddler to, everynight when I sit on the couch she immediatly hops up and lays beside me and whines if I don't pet her. She's spoiled rotten. At night she prefers to sleep under our bed, even though she has her own dog bed in our bedroom. Our bed and our kitchen chairs are the only furniture she is not allowed on, and she's perfectly happy with that.

She gets two walks a day, and like all cairns; she hates cats (Or loves to bark at them!) on our walks.

Yesterday I had the day off and took her to a local trail for a walk. Here is a picture (she looks much better now in days then when I adopted her, good coat stripping and brushing and diet dis her wonders!)

Anyway,I just thought I'd give an update and let everyone know that Maggie is doing very well. I coudn't ask for a better dog. (even my wife is starting to come around).

So sorry to hear about your loss of your beloved Caeser. That is coupled with joy that Maggie has become

an integral family member. Great picture of her and that's beautiful scenery. Keep us posted.

It was nice that Ceaser got to make a friend in Maggie and ditto for Maggie. Sorry for your loss. Maggie looks so content in her picture - so happy everything turned out. Maggie, you have to take over the family now and carry on for Ceaser. Keep everybody in line. Love and hugs.

I'm glad Caesar was there to help Maggie settle in.

She's a good looking gal. It is great that you made a home for her and she can be your special one, now that Caesar has gone to rest.

Maggie is a beautiful girl and obviously has found a wonderful life with you and your family. I'm sure Angus and all the other Cairn boys will be checking out her photo.

Maggie is a pretty girl and looks ver happy amongst the lovely scenery. Sorry about Ceasar but he was there to help Maggie to settle.

Sorry to hear about your beloved Ceasar, but Maggie gave him some companionship near the end. Maggie is a beautiful girl and is so nice to hear that she has made it into your hearts as well.

Rescue Cairns are so adaptable to their new environments--I'm convinced sometimes that they are "sent" by fate to help ease the many pains of life for the new owners. I understand the grief you suffer for your Ceasar but am also happy that little Maggie was there to ease the pain. Appreciate the followup and the beautiful picture.

Sorry to hear about Caesar, but how nice for him that he had Maggie to keep him company toward the end. Maggie looks fit and happy! Sounds like she's just where she should be. Very pretty photo -- love that trail!

what an absolutely adorable girl. i hope she is a comfort to you after losing caesar. bless you for adopting her.

Maggie is a beauty! I am sorry for the loss of Caesar.

(((hugs))) to you and your family...having Caesar for 13 years is quite a feat!! He will live long in great memories. Maggie is such a good girl...now is HER time to make GREAT memories with you and your family!

I'm so sorry about your Caeser. That is always such a hard time when we have to let them go. :(

I'm glad Maggie has come into your lives. She's gorgeous. Sounds like she has fit in well.
