Bonita Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Talking to a neighbor who suggested this for dogs loving to dig up your yard. Take some of their dry poop and put into the hole and cover it up. Worth a try. I have fencing all over my yard because Spencer loves to dig and lay in the hole.
Dempsy's Mom Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Hmmm. Ya, worth a try. It's not like it cost anything. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
DemiSheep Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 But, if it doesn't "work" then...... I might have to consider trying it....Attila and Tessa are digging holes to China in the back yard. Darn chipmunks... Our Cairns: Attila (Sprouted 03/09/11), Tessa (Sprouted 01/14/12)
Hillscreek Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I'd have to dig up the yard, lay poop and reseed if I wanted to stop the digging! Instead I have a designated digging area. My yard is unfenced like most round here and I can't trust Angus not to run into the road even though there are thousands of roadless acres in back of us. So when I'm working in my garden I tie him out on one of those swivel type ties. He is quite close to me and able to get under some trees and also lay and play on a grassy area. This is where I let him dig. No one cares about that spot which is kind of out of the way. Currently he has been digging lots of small holes. Earlier he dug one big one. He's happy. I'm happy.
Newman Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Im quite surprised actually, my dog fonzy actually stopped digging in the backyard. He now just barks like a mad man at the fence in the backyard because usually there is people out their or kids playing, lol. He doesn't dig anymore though, weird? Click to show the full size image!
Zekey's Mom Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 He doesn't dig anymore though, weird? Gavin's stopped digging too. I wonder if it's seasonal? He was digging like mad all spring. Maybe there were lots of underground critters, or maybe the ground was softer? Always keep you guessing, these Cairns!
Sam I Am Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Jock has never done any digging ....maybe he isn't a Cairn! But then our Scottie never did any digging either... Perhaps because our soil is a frozen block six months of the year. Sure hope when we pick up our new Scotty girl at the end of October (Rosie ) she will follow Jocks non digging traits Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
tlwtheq Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 My three don't usually dig. I think they scared off all the underground critters. They do, however, like lizard hunting. We have a small, indigenous little breed known as the Eastern six-lined race runners. They're in the firewood pile, and they frequent a small garden we have. The babies are really cute...they have bright blue tails for the first few months after being born. To date, no one has actually caught one of these. However, if they niggle into the house the little things are at the mercy of our kitty...and he doesn't miss. Max and Nelly
