jodi0553 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Poor Finn has just had the absolute wildest day! This morning, we picked him up from his first kennel stay. He was so happy to see us, he was just a bundle of wiggles and kisses! Apparently he did very well at the kennel - they leave the dogs out in small groups outside during the day and he played well with everyone. Well, little did he know, his adventure was far from over. We had to postpone his neutering surgery that was schedule for a few weeks ago till today because of the little rat poison incident. He was cleared for surgery so we called to get him in but all the vets take rotating vacations in August, so the only chance to get him in with one of our preferred vets was today. Now mind you, he was left out in a dusty dirty yard for the past 6 days, so he was disgustingly dirty! He either needed a bath this morning or we'd have to wait a week till the sutures come out. Additionally, he wasn't allowed any food or water this morning, so we decided to not let the kennel attendants bathe him because we were worried that they wouldn't properly control bathwater drinking. So, we picked him up, brought him home and dunked him in the tub! It was a two man job, one to bathe, one to keep him from drinking, quite a feat! It was his first bath ever, so he was quite confused! After a few sprints around the house to dry, we crated him up and took him straight to the vet. He's now recovering quietly at home, but as the anesthetic wears off, I'm preparing for some doggy revenge! Apparently he was the last dog into surgery this morning and the first one awake afterwards. I'm desperately hoping he won't have a significant backslide on housetraining after all of this! Here's the little guy resting on his bed surrounded by some of his favorite things:
_whits_ Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Poor little man! At least all the distress happened at once; hopefully he'll think it was all one bizarre dream. Give him cuddles from Colorado! "as far as i am concerned cairns are the original spirit from which all terriers spring, and all terriers are cairns very deep down inside." pkcrossley
hheldorfer Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 That's a long, tough day for a little Cairn but , as whits said, at least all the bad stuff is behind him. Buffy sends wishes for a quick recovery. She also has some revenge suggestions for him.
Lynn in TN Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Poor baby! I hate to see them when they're down!
Dempsy's Mom Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Poor Finn. That was quite a day indeed. I hope he can have some quiet time now. Best of luck when he wakes up because he may very well have a few things to say to you. "I was so happy to see you after 6 days and this is what you do to me!!" Best of luck with your recovery Finn! Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
DemiSheep Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I am sure Finn will be back up and bouncing off the walls in no time. He won't even figure out there is something missing either.. Our Cairns: Attila (Sprouted 03/09/11), Tessa (Sprouted 01/14/12)
josie&holly Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Poor lad, but he will forget it and be back to normal in no time!! www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
Tuesday Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Poor Finn! He looks so sweet sleeping. Here's hoping for a quick recovery!
Zekey's Mom Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Poor guy. Can't imagine what's going through his head! He'll be fine and all will be forgiven (fingers crossed).
Hillscreek Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 A lot of events for Finn! Here's hoping he'll be up and about and being his usual bouncy self very soon.
jodi0553 Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 About to do the next unforgivable deed - we're off to the pet store for an e-collar. Little buddy just won't leave the incision alone. He seems to only be licking it, but I don't want to risk licks turning to bites. None of the dog's I've ever had before have needed an e-collar, but I'm pretty sure it will not be received as "cairn-tastic"! He was just allowed to eat finally, so at least that made him pretty happy! Just discovered that the kennel left the plastic slow-feed bowl in his crate with him - it was clearly better to chew on than the kong and bone I took along for chewing!
Kathryn Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I think he deserves a litle pampering. particularly if he has to wear the "collar of shame." Poor little guy...I am sure, though, that he will tell you exactly what he needs, and probably soon will be demanding it! Feel better, Finn.
Hawkeye Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Finn has had a very hectic week and now the "collar of shame". It will get better little guy, in the meantime play it up big time and enjoy the extra pampering. Wishing Finn a speedy recovery.
EmmettsMom Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Oh No! Not the collar. We are very glad that he is doing well. Emmett is not particularly fond of his bathtime at home either. I hope Finn is loving his special attention and pampering. He deserves it. It has been a long week for the poor little guy! Hugs from Emmett!
Napi'smom Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 poor guy , hope he is doing well and back to his old self soon.
oscar's mom Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Have you thought about using a baby onsie. The baby tee shirts with the snaps at the bottom. They work well for Oscar. I snapped the two ends and stuck the tail out the middle. rolled up the tee shirt when he had potty breaks.
Tessie's Mom Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Here is wishing a little amnesia for Finn and a great rest of the week.
