Hillscreek
Extract quoted from Vero Shaw The Classic Encyclopedia of Dogs 1984 - originally published as The Book of the Dog 1879-1881 About the earliest standard I can find. For the dog called the Hard Haired Scotch Terrier. Not called the 'Cairn' till about 1910 as we know. Describes a dog similar to the current. Anyone know and earlier description any where? The whole book can be read on line at places like the Open Library etc. The book of the dog. (Open Library) Click on the picture to read. bradl
Perhaps we can call the adoption of the 1921 standard, advancing the differentiation of the Cairn including its divergent specification regarding the tail, "The Banana Split."
