Picked up Dempsy's heartgard today - $31 for 6 months. The gal said to watch the weather. If there are more than 4 consecutive days of 70 or above I may want to start a month early and then come in and pick up another month. Just a heads up.

Everything is blooming here. My apricot tree is in bloom and my apple trees have their buds and will more than likely bloom next week. Grass already needs mowing. Weeds are up. Pretty nutty weather.

Up here in Maine we had a beautiful week (last week) that broke all previous temperature records. During that time, we found two ticks on Layla already. Out came the Frontline and on it went. Course now it's back to just above freezing - hope the frigid weather kills them off for at least a few months.

We also took the boys out last week on a good hike only to find both picked up ticks too. I think he season for the heartgard and frontline is starting early in New England.

Same thing here in Illinois. No ticks yet but our vet said to get the furkids started on Frontline or Advantix ASAP.

I have tulips, rhododendrons and lilacs all blooming in my front yard at the same time. That's never happened before.

We have had temperatures in the 80's almost this whole month. We have had flowers in bloom for 3 weeks, and have only had 1 light frost. Kelly has wanted to live outside. She is scratching on the door constantly to go out. So far I haven't seen any ticks, but I am sure they are there. Thanks for the heads up.

If it is this warm in March what will July and August Temps be like???

Addie's on Heartgard Plus year round, because heartworm microfilaria can live in a dog's tissues for up to 4 months before turning into worms. When only the microfilaria (basically larvae) are present, a dog won't test positive for heartworm, but will actually have the beginning of the infection. I've seen the horror heartworm does to dogs when I worked at a vet and I don't want to take any chances. It's important to know that heartworm is preventable, an early infection is treatable, but once those worms make it to the actual heart and surrounding vessels it's almost always fatal.

Heartgard Plus also fights roundworms and hookworms all year long.

Here's some information on why more vets are suggesting year-round heartworm prevention: http://www.missionvi...s/heartworm.pdf

Here in Colorado it's been in the 70s for weeks now, which was a welcome relief from the longest and coldest winter I can remember here. But it also means wildfire season has started early.

We're on Sentinel (heartworm) and Frontline Plus year round. We had ticks here in the Missouri Ozarks in December!

We are in NE Ohio and my vet suggests year round treatment for heart worm. Both are on Heartgard. I do back off on the Frontline but I started early with it this year-the beginning of March since the weather has been so warm.

SE Ohio here and vet suggests heartguard year round, but we do stop frontline in the winter months..

I'm going to go year round on heartgard also. Thanks for the info. Started on frontline - 76 today (feels almost to hot) and I had two ticks on me and one was on Demps. It's to early for this stuff. I am with you Lynn - What's the summer going to be like? I just hope the winds stays away - it can make hot weather unbearable.
