Newman Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Like, we have 12 cats that he has to deal with, I feel bad for him! lol. But whenever it comes to food, or if a cat walks up behind him and tries to steal his food when he's eating or if the cat just unintentionally tries to sniff the food that's in his bowl (when fonzy is eating) he will snap at the cat or give them the "Death" look, as in you "BETTER GET AWAY" or im going to snap at you!. The good thing is, he doesn't get into fights any more with his partner (Shitzhu) His name is Odie. So that's good! But he still does the snapping and "death look" when he thinks somone is going to steal his food. I don't really think there is anything to do that I could do to make him be less overprotective? At night, when he is sleeping with me and sometimes he goes undercover to keep warn with me. but if somone opens the door, or if a Cat jumps on my bed, he will growl and give them the death look kinda, so I know he is just trying to protect me/etc, which is why I love him. don't get me wrong, he plays with odie all the time, (playful playing outside/etc) but whenever it comes to food, he will snap at anyone. He is very overprotective with his food and doesn't want know one to get in the way, any others like this? And if there is a pay-free solution to try to get him to be less "Snappy" please tell me. cairnrescueleague Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 feed him his kibble by hand - one piece at a time - make him sit for them - that way (theoretically), he'll learn that you control the food
Lynn in TN Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I agree with cairnrescueleague. Take his food whenever he snaps and hand feed him. When he is in bed if he snaps put him out of the bed don't let him back in it till the next night. It shouldn't take long for him to get it. Of course some dogs are more stubborn than others. Fonzy is a cutie.
