Malcolm's Dad Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Yesterday was Malcolm's Gotcha Day. I didn't have a chance to post yesterday so here it is today. I'm posting this on the UK side too. Sandra has a great sister site to CTCA. 3 years ago Malcolm came from the shelter. He was 1 so that makes him 4 years old. I don't know his real birthday, so a Gotcha Day will have to do. Malcolm doesn't mind, as long as he gets a present. He got a giant smoked beef rib bone and a stuffing free skunk with 2 squeakers. He was very busy. First thing was to de-squeak the skunk. That took about 1 minute. Then it was on to the bone. It kept him occupied all day and all night. Every now and then he had to thrash the skunk around just to make sure it didn't squeak again. He had a good time. He would have a new dog bed. A few weeks ago a discount store had a real nice dog bed on sale. It has nice high sides with good cushioning. He won't lay in a dog bed. He likes to lay over the sides so I thought he would like this one. He started chewing on it and dragging it around the house like it was a stuffed toy. I put it up so he wouldn't destroy it. Oh well, maybe someday he will use it. We will have to see how the park goes this summer. Malcolm gets nasty and wants to attack every dog and upright he sees. Maybe he will mellow out a little so we can walk in the park without people running to the other side of the street when they see him. I'm still using my old computer with Windows 95 and a dialup modem. I can see photos but no videos or slideshows. Even though I can't see half the content I really enjoy the forums on both sides of the Atlantic.
sanford Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 We will have to see how the park goes this summer. Malcolm gets nasty and wants to attack every dog and upright he sees. Maybe he will mellow out a little so we can walk in the park without people running to the other side of the street when they see him. I had this same problem with Ruffy, my adopted 4 year old. It was of great concern to me and made our walks very challenging and not very enjoyable for me. I wrote about the problem often on this forum and got some helpful feedback. It took me a year of constant work with Ruffy and he is 90% improved, but certain dogs will still occasionally tick him off. I hope you and Malcolm will enjoy the park this summer. If you run into problems with him, let us know. You'll always find support & guidance here from folks who have "been there!" P.S. Happy Gotcha Day, Malcolm! FEAR THE CAIRN!

Dempsy's Mom Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Sounds like a great day. Chuckled how he has to toss the skunk just in case he missed a squeaker. Glad you have Malcolm - Happy Belated Gottacha! When you do get a new computer you will have so much fun sharing all of Malcolm with us. Thanks for posting! Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori

TazTalk Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Congrats! Sounds like a great celebration day. Maybe try the bed again one day when he's tired after a long walk. "Maybe he will mellow out a little so we can walk in the park without people running to the other side of the street when they see him." I can completely relate to this! Taz always has some level of response to other dogs, and sometimes it's downright embarrassing. Classic leash aggression -- we just have not been able to cure him.
Sam I Am Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I had to laugh at Malcom not wanting to sleep in the dog bed! Jock refuses any kind of "dog" bed because... hey, why sleep there when the uprights have a perfectly good comfy and warm bed to lie on plus the sofas are good day beds.
