hheldorfer Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 We received great news last week that our son (actually my stepson) had finally proposed to his girlfriend. Last night the two of them came over for dinner. The bride-to-be, Devon, has multiple allergies so I spent the day cleaning the house and giving Buffy a bath and a good brushing. They arrived and Buffy immediately tried every trick in her Cairn book to get Devon to play with her. Buffy did her roll over trick about a dozen times, showed her belly (begging for a belly rub) and stared at Devon with the most pathetic and adorable Cairn expressions, all for naught. Defeated, she slunk off to her dog bed and pouted. When DH and I finally went to bed, Buffy told us in no uncertain terms that she needed an ego boost - licking our hands, snuggling, and generally behaving like a completely neglected dog. I think we spent an hour just reassuring her that she's the most wonderful dog on earth before she was satisfied and fell asleep between us. Such fragile egos, these dogs!
Sam I Am Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 It's those darn little dark orbs! Bottomless wells that elicit from us all the guilt we uprights have in one soul filled glare. Darn those cute little Cairns! Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Lynn in TN Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 POOR BUFFY! They are so cute and hate to be ignored. Give Buffy a belly rub for me. Kelly does this if we don't take her with us. We spend at least an hour making it up to her for our shopping trips in which she can't go.
Dempsy's Mom Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Oh, that's to bad. Congratulations to your son and Devon. .... but I bet little Buffy says "paws down." Maybe Devon will find out that she's not allergic to Buffy. I hope. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
pindrop Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Poor little Buffy thinking she has been ignored. Too bad they just don't understand but knowing you made up for it seems to have worked. Congratulations to your son and fiance Devon. I guess Buffy won't be in the wedding party? Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
janis Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Congrats! I'm beginning to wonder if my son's will ever get married! We will of course insist on girls who are "Cairn Compatable!" The no shedding should help
hheldorfer Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 Poor little Buffy thinking she has been ignored. Too bad they just don't understand but knowing you made up for it seems to have worked. Congratulations to your son and fiance Devon. I guess Buffy won't be in the wedding party? I volunteered Buffy as the Flower Dog but was told it would be an all-human affair. Drat!
Hawkeye Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Poor Buffy and now a second blow to his ego - no invite to the wedding.
janis Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 When my nephew was having his "classy traditional southern wedding" last year, there was much a do, as to whether or not his poor white trash country aunt, uncle and cousins would appear in appropriate attire (us). I jokingly said that Kirby had ordered a black tux for the wedding and my sister - in - law gasped and said "you know he can't come to the wedding don't you?!" after that I almost really ordered him a tux. Looking back, a Cairn in attendance would have livened thing up!
TazTalk Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Cairns love people and visitors ... I can imagine it was real hard for her tonot be the center of Devon's attention. Congratulations to your family.
