Tanner ~ Doggie Daycare

I don't post a lot, but thought I would give an update on what's been going on in Tanner's life as of late.

As some of you may remember, my grandmother passed away last April. We lived together, so she had stayed with Tanner during the day while I was working. I was very worried upon her death as to how Tanner would adjust to being alone during the day. It was working out okay. I walked Tanner in the morning and either walked or had a good play time once I got home from work. However, I still felt very guilty. Truth be told, it probably bothered me more than him. Anyhow, back in July, I found the answer to our problem in a fantastic Doggie Daycare program.

The program is held at a vet's office and the operator is a licensed trainer. They are located less than 5 minutes from my work. I went by myself the first time to talk with them and have a tour through the facility. There is a large fenced in area with the fake grass stuff. They have umbrellas for shade & small pools filled with water & sprinklers they use during the summer. There's a separate fenced in area where they enter, so any new dogs are introduced through that fence. At first, I only took him about once a week, but they've since started a monthly special, which means I can pay $125 and take him an unlimited number of times in a month. The staff are amazingly nice & Tanner loves them all. They take pictures and email them to me (see the ones attached!), as well as videos, which are on facebook & I don't know how to get them on here. I even got a Christmas picture of him from there.

They have a groomer on staff, who I spoke with and she seems very knowledgeable regarding cairn's and their special grooming needs. The jury is still out on changing to her, but she took quite a bit of time and seemed to understand his coat, etc.

I'm contemplating chaning to the vet on staff. She is incredibly friendly and has handled him quite a few times. Tanner has had one minor injury, a tiny little scratch that was handled immediately, just washed out and some antibiotic ointment on it. She didn't charge for that and discussed it with me and what I needed to look for when I took him home. I like my current vet and don't have a problem with them, but both Tanner & I just seem to "click" with this practice.

To say this has been a blessing would be an understatement. Tanner loves to go & I love knowing he's socializing with other dogs and people! We are both so much happier with this discovery!

I've attached some pictures from the Doggie Daycare program! :)

This one is just like him...to be on the "lookout."

There was a hot-air balloon that they were all barking at. We see them at our house all the time & Tanner barks like crazy at them.

They have a specified rest time, where they go inside & rest. They're usually outside for an hour, then in for an hour, but this picture looks like they all just took an outside rest break.

That first, is the best. He has that great Cairn smile going on. It must put your mind at ease he is in good hands. It's like their little kids and you hope they have a good day at school.

Your post and the pics are wonderful. I'm happy for you and I'll bet this is a load off your mind. Tanner looks quite content with his new friends.

What a great looking place... spotless! And Tanner looks like he is very happy... and by the look of some of the pictures, large and in charge :innocent:

I also love the first picture. The big smile and sitting on his throne! lol Very nice pictures. I am so glad everything is working out.

Becky, I have to say that this looks like an ideal situation for both you and Tanner. I cannot imagine what could be better for a Cairn than just this situation--plenty of exercise and companionship during the day and the company of its master during the evening and weekends. Talk about paradise for a dog!

Great pictures of Tanner having fun with his buds--being the typical Cairn, chasing, hazing, and then just hanging out with other dogs.

What a great site you have found. I can imagine it would give you piece of mind having him in a daycare center and looks like he is definitely enjoying the companionship of the other dogs. Job well done.

Wow! If the pictures are half as impressive as the staff I would say you have found a little sanctuary. Dempsy would give his eye teeth to have playmates all day. Good for you Becky! Great for Tanner! Thanks for sharing! Tanner is a sweety.

Thanks, everyone...I know some people would view this as an unnecessary expense, but the peace of mind it gives me...and the joy Tanner gets from being there...make it worth it to me. :)

Oh, that Tanner steals your heart. I am so happy for you both. It just looks like paradise for a pooch. Like the last video of Tanner sneaking up on the little black dog - looks like they must be best friends. Once again Tanner is really a sweetie. Thanks for checking in .

I am so glad it is working out for you. It is amazing how much we care for our babies. I am now working on getting someone to stay at our house when we go on vacation. I can't bear to board them, especially my 12 year old golden.

Since it looks like the link above worked...here are a couple of videos! :)

How fortunate to find such a wonderful place for Tanner. Worth every penny I would say to know he's safe, cared for and having fun!

Tanner is enjoying his doggy daycare to the fullest. He is so cute and looks like he runs circles around the others.

Thanks, everyone! We really do love this place...feel a bit like I've found my own personal treasure! :)

I thought about boarding Tanner for just one night for something & I simply can't handle the idea of him being alone in a kennel all night...so he gets to stay with my mom! Hope you find something that works for you!
