Sorry! Another collar question

So...I always heard the rule with collars was- if you can fit two fingers under the collar, it's fitted/adjusted properly. But do they mean two fingers side by side (slid under the collar against the dogs neck) or two fingers on top of each other?

The collar is not coming over Ripley's head, but I prefer it wasn't too tight so I went with the second option (two fingers on top of each other). Is there any danger with a collar that can slide up and down the dogs neck and spin around freely?

Don't mean to be neurotic, but I don't want my ignorance to cause her to get hurt

I'd like to hear about this topic, too! Divot's collar is on the last notch. I think it's too tight, hubby says it's perfect. The next size up collar is definitely too loose.

I've always used the "two fingers side by side" test. The only problem I've had with a too loose collar has been Gus slipping out of it...especially if wet.

I also use two fingers side by side. Never had any issues with it coming off.

Kshep, did you get your collar in yet? I am probably going to order another one myself. This time a little longer as I am using the last hole and there is no more leather left to punch another hole. Just like to have a little wiggle room if it becomes necessary.

Yes! And I love it! So well made. It dissapears into her fur, which is exactly what I wanted. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

If I went by 2 fingers on top of each other Kelly would slip right out of her collar. The little nymph can sometimes slip out of it using 2 fingers side by side. I am looking for another collar, a more grown up one.
