Dempsy's Mom Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Yesterday was 57, still, beautiful sunny day. Demps, Digger and I took a nice long walk around the farm. Demps ran in and out of hay bales, told off the cattle, went for a gator ride and had a grand old time. This morning - cold, in its 30's and going lower - 1" snow - thankfully no wind yet, but they say it's coming. Took Demps out for his morning poo. He looked around ... dribbled a little ... held his paw up and headed back to the house saying, "I think I will poo later mom." Opened the door. Demps scampered up the step and he immediately headed for is crate and is currently snuggled in a ball. So I think Demps has changed his mind on winter. Just like the rest of us, we were pretty happy with yesterday. I even had the camera with me this morning. Sorry - Demps has turned into a Weeny dog. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
hheldorfer Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I can't blame Demps for being a fair-weather dog. Heck, mom, who wouldn't prefer a warm crate to pooping out in the cold and snow? I'm sure he'll get his groove back and go charging after those snowflakes soon. We're waiting for the cold/snow/wind here in Chicagoland, too. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow so I'll see whether Buffy has turned into a weeny dog.
Sam I Am Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Yup... Jock is experiencing the same weather I think. It was 10 degrees above freezing yesterday... today its 14 degrees below freezing. Jock same as Demps... a quick pee... and a fast trip back inside! Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Carolinasmom Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 We live in Denver. Carolina used to go out in the snow, put her nose down and snow plow around the yard. She's come in with her face covered and snow balls clinging to her legs. Thank goodness for the tip on this forum about rinsing her legs with warm water to get the snowballs off so they didn't have to melt. Sounds like Demps will be glad when spring arrives!
_whits_ Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Carolina sounds just like Addie, who is my very own miniature snowplow. We have a few inches of new snow here in CO (and still falling) and as soon as I opened the door this morning Addie blasted out as fast as her legs could carry her and starting doing her snow zoomies (like regular zoomies, but with her face straight in the snow plowing everything in her path). She also made her obligatory Addie Snow Angels. And then inexplicably tried to climb a tree. I would love it if Addie took the same attitude as Demps. Instead I had to drag her back inside and she's currently standing at the door staring longingly out the window. Oh wait, she just plopped down in her "life sucks when I can't be outside" dramatic pose of sadness. Idaho Cairns Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 We're still dry here but much colder. The granddogs are up for a visit from California so we just got back from a walk at the golf course (the world's biggest dog park) so everyone is sacked out now. I gotta say that I like the fairways a lot better when they are green instead of that old hibernation brown but it is still fun--plenty of geese and squirrels to keep the interest up along with lots of deer smells so the dogs all had fun, dashing and prancing aroud the course. I hear snow is coming within the week and since that really excites the girls, I can't wait.
Lynn in TN Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 No snow here yet! Just wind and rain and Kelly didn't want to go outside to potty has held it 7 hours to keep from going out in the thunderstorm and wind. haha funny how they can hold it so long if they want to!
Kathryn Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Allie and T Bone agree Demps is a smart dog. A wam bed is always better than a frozen foot. No snow here yet, but we hear rumors it is coming!
pindrop Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Well now...Demps sure does sound like a woose. Layla on the other hand can't get enough of the snow. We just had about 7" and is now freezing rain (yuk!) Layla doesn't know it yet but her long walk of the day is probably not going to happen. Living in a mountainous region, it can be hardarous trying to get up and down hills that are covered in ice - so may take her out behind the house into the woods here. (had forgotten about attached snowballs but glad you mentioned it and how to remove - great tip - thanks) Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
Malcolm's Dad Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 We got the deep freeze in Chicago this weekend. Malcolm doesn't even notice the cold. I let him out in the yard and then have to call him in. Dempsy has good common sense, he needs to talk to Malcolm and let him know a warm doggie bed with an extra blanket is much better than that frozen yard.
2crazycairns Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Poor Dempsey! He and Gus should hang out together. Gus is "ok" with the snow until it turns to wet but then all bets are off. Poor guy positively HATES the rain......and here were are in Portland....LOL Gizmo on the other hand is oblivious to weather. Doesn't care if it's hot, cold, wet or sunny.....he wants OUT! Funny how they are all so very much alike and yet so very different. Rita Roetker Mommy of (Fer)Gus
