FL Frey Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I know a lot of you are a lot colder now, and for a lot longer. Waking up today in Tampa FL it was 30 degrees!!! Both fur babies did thier "business" really fast. Now that the sun is up, they are catching all the "rays" that can to stay warm. I'll be glad when it warms up as well. I grew up in the midwest, but after 15 years in FL, my blood has thinned, and it's COLD. Have a great day everyone. Kim
jo_ Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Geesh...that's pretty chilly for Florida isn't it? I'm way north in London, Ontario, Canada - yesterday we had wind chills of -17 C (approx. 1 degree F). Luckily my guys LOVE the snow. But in those temperatures we limit their time outside - wouldn't want them to get frostbite. Keep warm! Jo, Jagger & Eddie
josie&holly Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Love the photo - Holly likes to lie in sun too especially when it is shining into my living room - she moves with the sun round the carpet! Here is is wet and windy the last few days so we are not seeing the sun and walks are hard work! Hollydoes not mind light rain or soft breezes but objects to walking in heavy rain and very rough winds! So do I! However, we have managed short walks but think she would prefer to walk in the sun even if it were cold. www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
Sam I Am Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Jock is enjoying our very weird weather here in the Alberta prairies! We have not really had winter start as yet. A skiff of snow and most days 4 to 8 degrees above freezing. Usually its around 20 - 40 degrees below freezing! Somehow I think we are going to pay and pay big time around mid January! Florida weather... I love it. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
TazTalk Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 That is quite cold for FL (I lived in Tampa for a while). My mom is still there and she said they are worried about the strawberry and citrus crops. I totally understand about the blood thinning It all becomes relative, eh? What a great pic of the sun dogs.
Hawkeye Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 That's a great picture of the two sun goddesses. That is cold for Florida. My two love to bask in the sunbeam in our kitchen as well. The last couple of days have gotten really cold, but we still don't have any snow. I have to agree with Terrier Lover that we may pay dearly for the mild winter so far.
Lynn in TN Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I love the picture. I would like to soak up some rays to but it is cloudy here in Tennessee, and very cold. wind chill were 7 yesterday I normally would say thats not to bad but after having 60 degree temperatures all week it might as well been 40 below 0. lol I know exactly what you mean by blood being thin. I get use to the cold when it is cold every day but when it goes from 60 degrees to 7 degrees I don't handle it well. I like it a lot better when it is a gradual change. Kelly didn't like the change yesterday either. She was very quick to do her business and didn't ask to go out near as often.
Tuesday Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 FL Frey, not sure where in FL you are, but we are probably close because it was 20 something here. Murphy doesn't seem to mind the cold at all. I have to bundle up in a coat, socks, my lone hold out pair of sweaties, shoes, scarf, hat, gloves just to take him out to find just the right spot to poo poo - finicky little critter. Takes me forever to warm up. I moved to Florida to have it warm or hot all the time. I don't like this at all! I don't know how you Northerners (and by Northerners, I mean anyone above the state line of FL) handle it.
pindrop Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Love the pups and they always find the warmest spots. Layla loves the wood burning stove and will lay in front of it for hours. Today was also cold up here in Maine. It was probably 3 degrees but I bundled up warmly and decided not to put on her coat for our daily walk in the forest - perhaps I should have being so cold. But..we know it will get a lot colder so best we wait before added additional layers. Hope the weather improves for your sake and us Northerners are used to this weather so it's just grin and bear it time. Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
Malcolm's Dad Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Usually we have 0 to 20 F this time of year. Tomorrow they are predicting 40's so I'm not complaining at all. And no snow!!! Which means no salt on the streets. My car is loving it too. I put Malcolm's kitchen chair by the window in the sunshine. He likes to take a nap there when the sun is shining in. Thats about the only time he will sit in his own chair, otherwise he wants my chair lol.
Idaho Cairns Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Fran and I have played golf here the last two days--been between 50-54 degrees for several days. This is the mildest winter I can remember in many years. We have had two ski areas have to shut down after they opened because of lack of snow.
Kathryn Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Idaho Cairns - I should ship DH out to you! We have had an unusually mild winter, and he did comment on Christmas that perhaps he should look for a local golf course that was open...mind you, it is in the 30s. A little sleet and snow on New Years Eve, but now that is melting in the above-freezing temps. I came home from work yesterday to find the practice club in the middle of the living room. (Yes, that was off-topic. On topic: both dogs love to lay on the top of the living room couch in the sun. But then they bark frantically at anyone walking by, and I live in an active neighborhood in the city, so lots of people and dogs walk by. It's not as restful here as it looks in FL Frey's photo...)
kjwarnold Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 It's going to be 60 here today and the golf courses have been full for weeks. I have a friend who golfed on Christmas Day! Both dogs and I would really like to see some snow before we head to Florida for a month, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Our little guys love snow and would stay out all day in it. Of course, that doesn't mean that a quick nap in the sun isn't called for sometimes! Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
hheldorfer Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 We haven't had any snow to speak of in the Chicago area, either. It hasn't been a huge disappointment for me, but Buffy and Ziggy love playing in the snow and they haven't had the opportunity. I don't remember a winter here when I hadn't yet shoveled any snow by January 5th!
hheldorfer Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I don't know how you Northerners (and by Northerners, I mean anyone above the state line of FL) handle it. Heavy coats, scarves, mittens and rum.
Tuesday Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 sorry... I don't know how you Northerners (and by Northerners, I mean anyone above the state line of FL) handle it. Heavy coats, scarves, mittens and rum. Rum works good in the cold and the heat!!!
janis Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Temps up and down in Middle Tennessee as well. We went down to 19 one early morning, but we will be back up in the 50- 60's this weekend. My son played golf last weekend - think it was about 45 but he's a little crazy! Kirby doesn't care what the temperature is - he is always ready to go outside to play!
lindasue Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 No snow here in Mass either. Fine w/me! It's been cold this week, but we will hit 50 again tomorrow. By now we are usually buried in snow....this is great! Linda & Pegi
Dempsy's Mom Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Nothing like a good sunny spot with no breeze on a chilly day. Great pic. Last year in South Dakota - 19" snow - this year not a flake. Problem: Farmers don't stop farming. Today we were out tiling fields. 60's yesterday and today 50's. I sure hope we see some moisture before spring or during spring or we will be in for a tough growing season. But I must say it is nice not to battle the snow and cold. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
_whits_ Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 This has been the most snowy and coldest fall/winter I can ever remember in Colorado. Usually we get a freak snow in Sept/Oct, which melts the next day and then we have 60s and 70s until January (when the temp drops to the 30s) and the major snow comes in March, before it warms up in April. But out first snow was the beginning of October, and there have been heavy snows about every two weeks since. And there have only been a couple days when the temp climbed above freezing, and there were a couple nights with -15 windchill! There hasn't been a day since October 8th that we haven't had snow on the ground this season. And there's a big snow falling right as I speak. It's exhausting for me, because with Addie being a puppy she practically always needs to go out, and I have to drag on my ski coat, hat, gloves, and boots just to take her out. At least now she can wait about 45-mins to an hour; back in October she was averaging every 22 minutes! Addie, however, loves every second of it. Since the day we brought her home in July, she's been an air conditioning fiend, sticking her face in the car air conditioning vent, napping on the house air conditioning vents, and sleeping in front of the fan in my room. The first time she ever saw snow I swear she thought it was the best thing ever. A few weeks ago I let her sit out on our porch for a few minutes (we were snowed in, we don't have a fenced yard, and she was going crazy being cooped up) and I caught her trying to take a nap in a snow drift over her head! And my room fan has been on even (and perhaps especially) with the heating. She whines until I turns it on. I grew up in Colorado and went to college in Ohio, so I'm used to the cold, but I've never met a dog more hardy than my little Cairn. Her hair is incredibly thick, so I kinda understand it, but I've even stopped putting any kind of sweatshirt/coat on her unless it's below freezing or else she wants to spend over an hour tramping through the snow. The night it was -15? I had to literally drag her inside because she was too busy making Addie angels in the snow and trying to dig her way through the drifts. That being said, whenever she's in the house she is always sleeping in every sunny spot she can find. _whits_ Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 This is Addie in her first major snow back in late October. She's just as excited about it now as she was then. Newman Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Haha cute dogs Click to show the full size image!
Dempsy's Mom Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Addie is a little sweety. Seeing the snow on tape makes me miss it even less. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
Lynn in TN Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Look at Addie go in the snow. I would love to know if Kelly would do that, but we have only had flurries. She tried to catch them with her mouth.
FL Frey Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 No disrespect, but im great not knowing if my dogs like snow! Im so glad its back to FL normal (70's) . . . :-)
