Liz in PA Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 No, not cookies FOR cairns! People cookies SHAPED like cairns! My friends know them as "Hogans"
Dempsy's Mom Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I would like to make some Dempsys. Very cute idea. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
kjwarnold Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I just made star cookies for Packy and Kirby, and we've been giving them to friends with dogs, too. Wish we had a Cairn cookie cutter! What recipe did you use? INGREDIENTS: 1 1/2 cup flour 1 1/2 cup wheat flour 1/2 cup cornmeal (I didn't have cornmeal so I used oatmeal) 2 Tbs. Powdered Milk 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice 1 Egg - slightly beaten 1 cup water, more if needed PREPARATION: Mix all dry ingredients. Add egg. Gradually add water while stirring. Use just enough water to form a stiff dough. Knead until smooth. Roll out 1/4" thick and cut. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Leave in oven to cool and harden for at least 5 hours. Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Meggie Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Too cute. I'm sorry I couldn't find a dog cookie cutter for the dog treats I'm making all the office dogs! Hopefully star treats will do, although I fear they may get mistaken for human cookies at some point
kjwarnold Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Oh, duh! I was thinking you meant dog treats in dog shapes! Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Hawkeye Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 They look scrumptious! I want that cookie cutter!! I think every cairn owners needs this - don't you?
Liz in PA Posted December 20, 2011 Author Posted December 20, 2011 http://www.ebay.com/itm/vintage-lot-13-tin-COOKIE-CUTTERS-COPPER-color-Holiday-/200687233203?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eb9e428b3 I had this cutter DECADES before I had a cairn...was really excited when I realized what I had. I THINK it was part of a big set (more than in the ebay link above), that my mother got with Betty Crocker coupons maybe around 1970? $30.00!
Kathryn Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Wow! Could not believe the prices. I love making cookies and have quite a few cutters, including both a metal and green plastic (50s?) stamp-type, and also a later-day cutter. But when I make doggie biscuits, I always use my cat-shaped cookie cutter. Somehow that seems more appropriate for "dog treats."
eastofeden Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I picked up a cairnish cookie cutter last year at Sur La Table . Raise your expectations for what your Cairn can do....and try very hard to meet your Cairn's expectations of you.
Ivy & Lucy's Mom Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I bought one from Lehmans Hardware store-an Amish store in Kidron Oh. They have a website as well.
Ivy & Lucy's Mom Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Well, after checking the store on-line, you can't purchase the cookie cutter from online. I did find a wizard of oz toto and dorothy's shoe cookie cutters from Etsy-an online website that sells a lot of homemade and creative crafts. The cookie cutter is only $5.00.
