Dempsy's Mom Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Yesterday was a rainy dreary day and Dempsy wanted a new squeakie. I thought I would show you his new playing tactic of softly mouthing the toy. He is so sweet. The squeakie laid in tiny pieces of colorful plastic confetti not minutes later. ....... Then as I was posting this I saw his cattle inspection and thought what the heck - it's a two for one day. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
hheldorfer Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Darn it! I'm at work, where I can't see the videos. Can't wait to get home tonight and see what Dempsy's been up to.
kjwarnold Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 You tell 'em, Dempsey! Gotta keep those cattle in line. Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Hawkeye Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Great videos! Demps is very gentle with the toy, but had to laugh he tore it apart in minutes. Radar is very proud of him, he says you showed mommy who's boss
Kisses Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I love the frist movie and the way how Dempsy is trying to catch the toy in slow motion And the attack in the end of clip

Dempsy's Mom Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 I thought it was kinda cute when he didn't eat those tempting cow poopies. Such a good boy for listening to mom. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
Idaho Cairns Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I enjoyed these a bunch--Bonnie and I play the grab the toy game a bunch--she does go for it however. The farm clips are fun, I have had mine around cows a little but they have always been leashed. My fear is that if the cattle ran, the dogs would most certainly chase them and I don't want cause a stampede. I still think Cairns would make great farm dogs because, unlike Aussies, sheep dogs, and Heelers, Cairns aren't that single minded about what they do, they have more "facets" if you will.
Dempsy's Mom Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 You are correct regarding stampedes. I only let Demps go out and check the runt calves in the small pen. He does get brave and gets in there and the calf chases him. He loves it, but only because he knows his escape route. The calf will chase him to the gate and they go back n' forth - you know Demps is not going to give in ... at least not without the last word. If I find a clip I'll post it and chance the criticism, be gentle, it's Christmas. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
Sam I Am Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Keep them coming! I love Dempsey at the farm videos! I dont always trust the livestock around dogs I must say. I certainly have had horses that would just as soon finish off a dog than give it a second look.. my present mare being one of them. I keep Jock well out of the way of her hooves. I have seen my mare Hally chase coyotes out of the pasture, snaking her head back and forth. She seems to think its her job to protect the other horses. Years a go I had a Wolfhound named Pepper. I went into a field full of cows and new calves... Pepper and I ran for our lives when the mama's decided they wanted to kill us Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
hheldorfer Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Dempsy is Buffy's hero - snagging the toy and then keeping all those cows in line. He truly is a talented boy and tough as nails, too. Loved the videos!
Tuesday Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Murphy heard that squeaky toy and came running. He was sure Mom had a new toy for him. That SD wind gets me shivering every time I hear it on one of your videos! Dempsy is so handsome!
Lynn in TN Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Kelly came running and barking, she wanted the toy. Dempsy is a doll. I loved the videos. Thank you for sharing.
Dempsy's Mom Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 OK. Now keep in mind that farm people are a little different from city folks. This calf is not one of the runts ?- he must of been in that pen for another reason, but you can tell he is playing - he isn't charging or is mad. I can't take these adventures away from Dempsy, it is apart of our lives. It was quite some time ago now that I made a comment to something or other that one of you folks said regarding a neighbor - I got scolded for it - but it's not because I was being insensitive it was because I am a little naive when it comes to neighbors and apartment living. Sometimes we get a little persnickety by reading something into the stories. If you weren't good dog owners you wouldn't be on this site. I know that and by reading from this forum you allow me to be part of different life styles. So that being said this is what Dempsy truely enjoys doing most every morning. When Dempsy looks back he is making sure that calf doesn't get the last word. This is the same thing he does to the horse. When Dempsy walks away the horse will hit the fence with her foot and Dempsy rips back to tell her off. Maybe sometime I will get a vid of that - it's quite cute. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
pindrop Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 First off I have to say how handsome he is in the toy video. I like it when he tries very patiently to take the toy and you pull back. At the end he says - give me that toy and stop teasing me Mom. He scared me too with that death lunge It's quite obvious that Demps is at home on the farm - and smart of him to be on the alert. He seemingly loves to tell the other animals whatfor and youknowwho. Quite the little boss he is and proving to everyone how he handles everything with a grain of salt and it's just everyday stuff you gotta take care of. As usual - loved all the vids and welcomed them - keep em comin. Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
Sam I Am Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I would give my hind tooth to live out in the country must say. Its such a wonderful place for a dog to be... lots of things to chase and sniff... a terriers heaven! Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Lynn in TN Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I would love to be their and help Demps with the calf. Soooo much fun. I believe that's one of my favorite videos. I miss the farm life so bad at times. I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.
Tuesday Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Lori, I love to see your videos of Dempsy (and your farm). I love to hear your stories of Dempsy's and your life. It's very eye opening for me, as I have lived urban/city life for most of my years. I'm in a very rural area now, and hide under the bed when I take Murphy out at night and hear the coyotes laughing and howling (and when I see bugs and snakes and stuff like that). Dempsy is such a big part of your life and the farm and the cattle are his life. It's normal for him. Plop him down in NYC with Sanford and the poor guy probably wouldn't know what to make of it. I think that's what makes this community so great. We are all different, we all come from different parts of the world, and we all have one commonality - Cute Crazy Cairns! I've been involved in a few online communities over the years, and I have to say, that by far, this one has the best group of people who truly do care about the community they are a part of.
Dempsy's Mom Posted December 17, 2011 Author Posted December 17, 2011 Yes, little Demps has a tuff enough time with Minneapolis, I think we will keep his city life adventures very limited. We are on the same page when it comes to this forum and it's members. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
Kathryn Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Yes, here in Minneapolis, Allie and T Bone know how to torment yet keep away from "free range" cats on their walks, just as Demps has learned how to keep away from, yet give grief to, those cows. I think all cairns learn quickly how to gain the upper hand. Our city dogs just do it with whatever they can in the cities, and Demps is a pro at the farm. Actually looks like he has the time of his life - every day! Go, Demps!
