Pingber Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Hi All ... Maggie Mae was born 9/18/11. We picked her up last Tuesday, so we've had her exactly 1 week! A little background ... we've always been doxie people, but we've had SO much bad luck with them. Our wire-haired, Penney Lane (yes, I like R & R song names) became paralyzed at age 10, blew out a couple of discs, Our vet told us she would never walk again, BUT, he never explained that to Penney. We did water and "dry land" therapy with her twice a day for about 4 months, bouthg her a cart, and to make a long story short, not only did she walk, but she ran and played like a pup for another year and a half. Unfotunately, about 4 months ago, she contracted chronic pancreatitis (another doxie problem) and after 4 bouts in 5 weeks, her poor little body just couldnt handle it any more and started to shut down, so we helped her over the bridge. It was the hardest thing I ever did as she was really my "heart" dog. Her close frind, a short-haired doxie, named CHloe, the other love of our lives, 6 years old, blew out her back a month ago AND contracted pancreatitis that same week. We also had to put her to sleep. It was the first time in 41 years that my wife and I had been petless. ABout a week later, we looked at each other and said to each other that we needed a dog. Cairns seemed a natural fit for us, bright, independent like doxies, fun loving, etc etc etc ... but without the back and pancreatitis issues ... and SO, we found MAggie Mae. and our lives have changed once more ! Phil PS, please excuse the spelling errors as Maggie was placing her paws on the keyboard
hheldorfer Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Welcome! Maggie Mae sounds wonderful and apparently, like my Cairn Buffy, tends to interfere with typing on the keyboard. I can't wait to see pics. And Happy Thanksgiving!
KShep Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Hello, my family are doxie people as well. I can't call myself one anymore though. Cairn Terriers ftw! One dachshund, had back problems, one has skin problems. However, one lived to 13, the other is 13 and still kicking. Good dogs. They make wonderful companions, but you will love being a Cairn owner. They are funny little guys! Welcome to you both!
tlwtheq Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Welcome to the Cairn family! You have your work cut out for you. But life will be so sweet you won't notice. Max and Nelly
Lynn in TN Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Welcome to the forum. I love my little Cairn. She is the best dog I have ever had!
janis Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 You will love your Cairn - just keep saying this over and over! Because it's true! No matter what they do or don't do, they give you the brown eyes and your heart melts. Or the give you a little lick on the nose, and your heart melts, or they put their head in your lap, even if it interferes with you knitting and your heart melts! But, when you need advice, or you want to know if yours is the only Cairn who _______(fill in the blank) visit here! Lots of love and excitement every day. And welcome
