Also, this is the first time I am adoption form a private party, is there any paperwork involved? Thank you all for your help and I am already looking forward to the addition to our family
Tuesday Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Do you have a local vet? I would make an appointment ASAP to take said pup to the vet as soon as you pick her up. How old is the puppy? Enjoy, and as I always say, and will be backed up by the "community" we LOVELOVELOVE pictures.... Oh, and congrats!!!! (and we like pictures)
bradl Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Here are current vaccination protocols as taught in vet schools, reflecting the (somewhat newer) 3-year revaccination cycles. This page happens to be U of Washington, but you can find similar listings elsewhere. http://www.vetmed.ws...ccinations.aspx Personally, we do only the core vaccinations (no corona, lepto, lyme, etc.) on the above schedule as recommended. We have done the influenza on one puppy, when there was in fact an outbreak in our area. Otherwise, we treat it as non-core, per the protocol. For a new puppy, the key is at least one set after 12 weeks, one set a year later, then three years thereafter. As always, discuss with your vet and take "internet advice" - including and maybe especially mine with a grain of salt. Welcome! Good luck with your new Cairn. CAIRNTALK: Questions? Meggie Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 In addition to the great advice of asking the vet's great advice ask your vet about Microchipping. This is a small chip implanted in the back of your dog's neck you can register online, so if your dog is ever lost or ends up in a shelter, they can scan him/her and reunite you!
Dempsy's Mom Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Congrats on a new pup! Would love to meet him or her. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
janis Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Be sure NOT to expose your puppy to other dogs until he/she has had it's shots! Avoid the dog park until the vet says it's caught up!
