I think I have lost it

I will try to make this long story short. My son brought home a 9 week old Cairn about a month ago. He is waiting for his girlfriend to finish her final year of nursing (RN Cert) which she is doing in New York and we live in Oregon then they will be getting their own place this summer. So since I retired early guess who baby sits during the day. We have a Silky who is 15 years old and sadly his health is starting to fail, probably the only good thing for him is he can't hear now which may be a good thing with the pup. Of coarse my wife said NO MORE DOGS at least that is what she said until Mischa (my sons pup) came into the picture.

We go out today to see our new puppy, Rudy a 7 week old Cairn who will be coming home to us in two weeks. What have we done?

Mischa is doing pretty good on the potty training and even getting a slight handle on the bitting. I have learned a great deal the last few days by reading this forum.

Well now - seems the old expression "in for a penny - in for a pound" is your motto. We too are retired in this household and got our puppy almost a year ago now (wow how times flies). Having not had a puppy for years, it was quite the eye-opener. We both sounded like we were drill sargents constantly saying "NO" or "No Bite" and fussing and running here and there. And that was with one. I'm not trying to discourage you in the least as most members on this forum have more than one dog. Just trying to picture you running around after "two" puppies. As you are not necessarily asking for any advice, all I have to say is good luck and please let us know how things progress. Of course as Lynn would said (as I look up and see her post) pictures are a must.

Two Cairn pups in the same house? What fun! Enjoy the experience but don't let yourself get run over! It could happen. Pictures soon?

Well one good side to this my son gets home from work around 2:00pm so I get somewhat of a break. Don't get me wrong Mischa has had her moments but for the most part has been doing very well. After having a terrier for 15 years I have learned a lot and possibly drink a little more jack now haha.

I'm jealous. Luigi jumped up into my lap tonight and cuddled... just a year ago this week we got him and boy has he turned our world upside down. But I love those little puppies. Not ready for another one though. Still enjoying sleeping through the night and not having to potty train. Have fun!

Sometimes in life it's best to dive in to the madness and let things go where they will. Pour another glass of Jack and enjoy!

We went out and saw Rudy for the first time yesterday, very cute little guy. He will be coming home with us in two weeks and then the fun will begin. Now is a good time, one my sons girlfriend comes home for winter break for a month in mid December and she will have Mischa during the day and two my wife and I will be traveling over 120 days through out next summer in our 5th wheel so I will have some time for the training and such before that begins. See I have a positive attitude at least for the next two weeks.

Protect your ankles, practice squealing, and keep your sense of humor!

These little guys sure tend to wrap us all around their paws pretty quickly!

Have fun with 2 puppies!!

These dogs are a menace to sanity, but it's a voluntary insanity.

I've only been a Cairn mom for a little over three months, but truer words were never spoken. Sometimes I don't know how I manage to maintain my mental health, but I know for sure I'll never get another kind of dog.

Oh you have been bitten by the cairn bug!! Hahaha...you will never recovery from this. I know, I have had cairns for over 25 years. It's kind of like the saying you can't live with them, you can't live without them.

Can't wait until you get some pictures posted.

Of course you've lost it. Welcome to the asylum!

Loki came to me when he was 11mo. Within two months we were talking about getting a second. You are among friends.

Who rescued whom?

Claymike - We completed our "circus" 2 weeks ago when we got Barmun a 12 week male. He joins 11 month female Baylee! The first few days were tough. Neither knew where the boundry for play was, and we had to seperate them a few times. And Barmun pees more in an hour and a race horse, mostly still in the house. (thank goodness for pergo floors!).

But Baylee is SO much happier to have a buddie to play with. Yes it twice the work and frustration but it's 4 times the fun and love. It's getting better with each day.

Hang in there.

LOL well since I am a week away from getting Rudy and Mischa was a true terrier today I had to ask myself again "what have you done" I am sure things will work out and we can hardly wait to get Rudy home. I am sure there is going to be a huge adjustment period but I am ready.

Boy oh boy do I get where you're coming from. We thought 2 Cairns were enough,

then we met Sweet Pea. And the rest, as they say, is insane history!

Oh my goodness - why oh why do they make puppies so cute? They just melt your heart and make you do silly things like having two!! Mischa is absolutely adorable and looks a delight. From the puppies perspective, it will be great having a play mate -not so much from the human aspect. While sitting here and typing - you do realize that when your son and girlfriend take Mischa back next summer, your little Rudy will miss Mischa and need a replacement puppy to play with. Now see what you have done!
