Meggie Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 This is what we call this behavior of Hubble's. Kibbling is our very own verb. Sometimes when Hubble is very excited or frustrated with his tricks, when he is rewarded, he takes the treat, runs around the room with it in his mouth, spits it out, pounces on it, repeats! On and on. It's hysterical. He'll even do this with his food occasionally (hence the "name"). I'm going to try and film it at some point, but it's an unpredictable game. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Anyone's doggie a kibbler?
Hawkeye Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Yup, Radar usually does that with his carrots/veggie treats. He runs into the living room tossing it in the air, rolling on it and then finally will eat it. Good name -- kibbler.
Lynn in TN Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Kelly does this also. I think it is so cute the way she throws it around and pounces on it.
ScruffynMag Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Scruffy does it with his bully stick, throws it in the air and pounces on it several times before he finally starts to have a good chew. It is cute and he has us laughing at his antics. www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
gt_mustang_gal Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Yep, throw it around, pounce on it, pick it up and pretend he's gonna eat it, just to spit it back out and sling it up in the air again (growling at it the whole time). So I have a Cracker Kibbler.
tomatosandwich Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Aww, Divot used to do it, but he doesn't any more. Now he's just a gobbler.
pindrop Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Layla does it too - usually with a tiny tiny piece of rawhide. She manages to bite off a small piece and throws it up in the air - pounces on it - throws it back up and sometimes because it is soooo small, she will miss it and then frantically searches for it. Whenever we see her do these antics, we now know that is what she has. Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
Idaho Cairns Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 My two work from the theory that any edible morsel tossed in the air is subject to immediate piracy by the other dog so what goes in mouth, stays in mouth until consumed. It is a simple, efficient, and practical principle that is never violated by either Cairn!
Meggie Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Aww, Divot used to do it, but he doesn't any more. Now he's just a gobbler. Sooo funny! My two work from the theory that any edible morsel tossed in the air is subject to immediate piracy by the other dog so what goes in mouth, stays in mouth until consumed. It is a simple, efficient, and practical principle that is never violated by either Cairn! Luckily for Hub, there are no other dogs to contend with...yet (Dear God, don't let my bf ever see this post) I'm so amused the majority seem to share this quirk! My boyfriend was shocked when I told him!
utgaard Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Loki does this, too. He'll pause when he pounces, with his head low, tail end up high and wagging for all it's worth. You can't help but smile. Who rescued whom?
hheldorfer Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Buffy is a kibbler but does it just to bait Ziggy. She'll get a treat and race into the living room with it, then toss it in the air. When it hits the floor she waits for Ziggy to see it and dares him to try to steal it. It's cheap entertainment for us.
_whits_ Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Addie does it with any treats that require more than one bite to swallow. I hand it to her, she runs across the room with it, throws it on the floor, and then barks at it and tries to attack it for a good few minutes until she starts to break it into pieces. And then the whole process starts over again every time she breaks a piece off. Weird how so many Cairns have the same quirks.
