Gross

I have had one heck of a night with my little Addie, and I need to commiserate with someone.

Addie was up just after 1am, barking. Which she only does when she needs to poop. So I got her out of her crate, took her outside, and she did her business. I then brought her back inside and put her back in her crate. She started whining, which she typically does for about 30 seconds to make sure I'm staying in the room. But unexpectedly she started barking again. Though odd, I figured she needed to pee, so I took her back outside.

We get outside, and I get hit with the distinct smell of poo. So I figure she farted and I'm thinking "That's odd that she'd need to poo again." Until I realise the smell isn't going away, and I'm standing in an open yard in the middle of two acres on a breezy night. And then the horrific fact dawns on me: I'm covered in poo, from my waist down.

I pick up Addie. I realise her entire back end is covered in poo, which she has transferred to her bedding, the floor, my clothing, and any of my exposed skin.

And that's how I found myself giving my dog a bath at 1:54 in the morning (I looked at the clock). Not just any bath either: the most time-consuming, extensive and traumatic (for her and I) bath I have ever given any dog. And found myself mopping the floor and cleaning the kitchen. And found myself taking my second shower in less than 4 hours. And found myself doing laundry after 2am.

It's nearly 3am now and of course Addie is curled up sound asleep right now while I'm wide-awake.

PLEASE tell me you other Cairn mom and dads have experienced similar gross-out or middle of the night disasters. I need to know I'm not alone.

I never had a puppy and never had your specific incident occur to me. Although there is one incident that I caused with Ginger, my over the rainbow bridge terrier x, that might make you feel like you are not alone. I laugh about it now, but back then life was pure hell for a few days.

Tuesday mornings is garbage collection day around here. One of those mornings a few years ago, I had tossed a bag of Snausages dog treats in the trash because I thought they didn't look right and did not want Ginger eating them. I then set the trash bag on the floor so I would not forget to take it out when I left for work and then proceeded to go take a shower and get dressed for work.

That done I returned to the room where I had left the bag and found that Ginger had completely destroyed the garbage bag in the attempt to get at the Snausages. Well she ate all of them. I cleaned up the garbage mess and proceeded to work with a pretty happy dog left behind.

That is not the end of the story, it didn't end until about three days later. I returned home that evening from work and there was a pile of poop about every 10 inches. Thank God it was isolated to the kitchen. Looked kind of like a checkerboard. It took three days of many many walks for things to firm up and a return to normal.

Gotta love that late night washing of dog butt. ;P

Dog barf isn't pleasant either! We had barf and diarrhea one night. Poop butt can be offensive!

You are definitely not alone. Cracker is currently losing baby teeth and it's making him sick. At first, I posted a thread to see if it was normal and found out from members that it was. It started with him throwing up, but now it's affecting BOTH ends. It seems like as soon as I get the puke cleaned up, I'm cleaning up the other end (literally). We've even had a few accidents in the house - the worst was this morning when he apparently STEPPED in the poo, tracked it all through the house, still had some "stuck" back there, proceeded to try to SCOOT along the carpet to get it out, etc. I was attempting to clean the carpet AND chase him down so I could clean him, but he was scared and just wanted to run from me. That only tracked the poo further through the house. Needless to say, this morning was NOT good. I feel your pain!
