Malcolm's Excellent Adventure

Malcolm's Dad

Malcolm had an interesting day yesterday. That prednisone is kicking in. In the morning he was barking furiously at the squirrels in the tree. Only thing was there were no squirrels in the tree.

I don't think he should be exerting himself too much so I kept him inside most of the afternoon while I was out working in the yard. Glad I listened to PK. When I came in he was sitting by the door with a sheepish look. Uh oh. Sure enough he made a mess. Glad I put the baby gate up to keep him in the kitchen. He was so pitiful looking, he felt bad. I felt bad too, he isn't feeling good.

So we go on the couch. For an hour he let me pet and massage him. Most of the time he won't sit still for two seconds. It's very unusual for him to cuddle. Is this really Malcolm or did another dog sneak in here?

Then it was in and out so he had plenty of opportunity to go potty in the yard. I was getting worn out, he was still going strong.

He did sleep good. He even slept in bed with me. Normally he sleeps in the laundry basket.

Well today we will have to check the tree. I hope there are really squirrels in it this time.

It sounds as though he had a good day with lots of quality time. I hope the prednisone helps and he starts to feel a lot better soon. Give the cutie pie a hug for me.

That's sounds pretty typical for a "prednisone day". Is there a particular reason why you think Malcolm should take it easy? Wearing off some of the extra energy generated by the drug may not be so bad.

Hang in there, Malcolm. I sure hope your itchies go away soon.

I've taken cortisone and they tell you not to exert yourself. You could pull a muscle and not know it until the cortisone wears off. I don't know if prednisone does the same thing so I don't want to take any chances.

That little stinker. He tried to get two dinners again tonight. Sitting by the food dish looking like he's never been fed lol. He thinks he can play on my sympathy that little smartie.

prednisone makes them feel thirsty and hungry, almost desperately hungry. a lot of dogs gain significant weight, and diabetes is a side-effect of prednisone because of the appetite issue (for those dogs whose owners allow them to eat as much as they want). i hope the treatment works and malcolm gets off the drug soon.

awww...sounds like Malcolm is getting exactly what the doctor ordered - medication and quality time with Dad. I know Layla doesn't care to be petted or made a fuss over but I really love it when she will come and stretch out beside me, making sure she has contact with some part of my body. I too hope Malcolm won't be on prednisone for long as PK points out the negatives. Hope he heals quickly and you enjoy the closeness for however long it lasts.

I must have missed a post (working new weird shift hours I get behind) but what is wrong with Malcolm?
