Hapzen Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I think Thia is related to the wolf, pretty close too ... just look here! http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150392999555529 Do your Cairn do this? Helene & Thia
KShep Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 No, it's so weird because Ripley doesn't make any of those sounds. She has a deep bark and growls, but never whimpers or howls.
Lynn in TN Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 So far Kelly hasn't howled, she has deep bark and growls also. It would tickle me pink if she did howl!
kjwarnold Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Packy howls when I leave sometimes. I've never heard it, but several people have told me it happens. Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Sam I Am Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 That is hilarious! Jock does a "happy you are home" howl. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Dempsy's Mom Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Very cute. Dempsy does high pitch barks and low growls, no howling. I liked hearing Thia howl. Thanks. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
cairnrescueleague Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 When I lived in NH, my cairns used to howl in unison when I left the house. It was absolutely beautiful. I wish I'd recorded it.
_whits_ Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 No howling from Addie. But she is VERY vocal about her opinions and has about 7 different barks, at least. All incredibly high pitched. Please tell me the bark gets lower pitched as they get older. Dayvo Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I've only heard Robby howl 1 time.We where walking in the park and a fire trunk went down the road with its siren running. He kinda looked at me like "what should we do about it" so I playfully howled myself just a sec and he joined in.It was the most perfect little howl and I can't seem to get him to do it again.
Hawkeye Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Neither Bailey & Radar howl. Radar is very talkative thou. He grumbles and yells at me when he wants to play with his toys. Bailey's very content, not too much to complain about.
jimnconnie Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 When the mailman is nearing our house & Sophie is barking her fool head off, I tell her "NO BARK!!". She switches to a kind of squealing, whining, shriek that reminds me of an excited chimpanzee. Kind of a monkey-dog, I guess. She's so weird!! Jim Jim, Connie, Bailey & Sophie
Harry Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Hahaha! Harry howls a lot , especially when he is happy ! Does this when anyone in the family comes home , or if you are playing with him and he has his bone. I must get a video to post ......its the cutest thing and I love to hear it! Cairns are like potato chips , you cannot have just one....
Meggie Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Aaaaw our boy is very vocal but no howling! Too cute.
percy's_girl Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 No howling from Percy. I played your video a few times for her and she promptly went to her toy stash to make sure the squeaky in the video wasn't a toy she was missing

darkpantherbabe Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 LMAO! i turned the sound on to hear this and Sadie came running over with ears 'n head cocked! picked her up and put her on my lap and she kept turning her head and cocking it and starring at the screen with ears perked. lol. Sadie doesn't howl... She mock growls when you play with her in a certain way however. save a life! Adopt!

_whits_ Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Addie's just started this new vocal thing. When I leave the room, she waits about a minute and then starts to whine (I'm working on making it stop). But instead of a typical whine, the past couple of days she's actualyl started to sound like a cooing bird. Almost like some sort of dove. I just tell her she's weird. And I'm glad to hear others saying their Cairn talks. Addie's not a barker, she's a talker. One bark to get the air conditioning one, one to ask for water, one to say hello to other dogs, another to say hello to kids, one when she's certain I've abandoned her forever, one when she's demanding something she can't reach . . . she keeps adding more. Idaho Cairns Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 No howls like those among any of my girls. Cute as the dickens tho--I would encourage it. For play only tho.
