Whats the craziest thing(s) your cairns have eatten/chewed on? save a life! Adopt!

Whats the craziest thing(s) your cairns have eatten/chewed on? I have a temper pedic/memory foam matress... and sometimes the cairn bites into and terrorizes it to death and eats my own bed matress... Only if the sheets fall of sometimes, but if I keep the sheets on it he is smart and wont be a bad dog but yeah Click to show the full size image!
Jeff N Oscar Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I think this might be a topic for "Behavior & Health" lol Jeff tries to remove every tag from his toys, we find him on the stairs working it off when we forget to remove them first. This is his latest work of art, his birthday toy, we call it "DINO DAMAGE" The little felt dino spikes never stood a chance against our Cairnsaurus Jeff The Dino just fell off the step when I snapped that last pic.. leaving a shred of purple material behind from his chompingOMG HE IS SOOOOOOOO ADORABLE!! I can't help but love him a lil bit more with that tongue out!! I became a dog person AFTER I got my dog.
Hawkeye Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I have to say the craziest thing Radar chews on is the squeaker from the stuffed toys once he has destroyed it. He can go for days on a dead squeaker, running through the house, tossing it in the air and just chewing on it as if it's gum. This morning Bailey stole it from him and layed on it (yes on purpose) and you should have heard Radar...high pitched barking & whinning as if to say "mommy he took my toy". It's very cute. Bailey is not a chewer he just loves taking Radar's things away from him.
pindrop Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 lol Hawkeye Layla just LOVES her tennis balls - will run around chomping on them forever and making that awful squeaking sound that eventually will drive us crazy. Other than that, she has yet to destroy a toy as she is usually quite gentle with anything that is stuffed or even her non-stuffed skunk and fox. Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
kjwarnold Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Both my boys chewed on their dog tags when they were younger. They still have teeth marks on them. Packy likes to sneak acorns into the house and chew them up in the fall. We have to check his mouth at the door before we go in because he hides them in his cheeks. Kirby isn't much of a chewer, but he'll take a toy away from Packy and chew on it a while just to cause trouble. Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Lynn in TN Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Kelly is 20 weeks old. so far she hasn't destroyed any of her toys, but does destroy rocks. I have seen her break rocks with her teeth. I have to check her mouth constantly when we are outside. With diligence I am hoping to break her of it. She also loves metal if she isn't chewing it she's licking it.

darkpantherbabe Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 tags are normal to be chewed on.... but last night on our evening walk, she tried eating broken glass... which she looked at me like "spoil sport" when i made her drop the piece in her mouth, gave the leave-it command, and picked her up 'n carried her away a few feet when she didn't want to "leave it". She doesn't chew on any of her toys except her mr man(no idea what he is so here's a picture).... she used to have a squeeky raccoon but she destroyed it, so i bought a chipmunk and she hasn't destroyed this one... she only had one toy when we got her, the mr man toy.... she now has a bone, a yellow squeeky porccupine(sp?), stuffed squeeky chipmunk, and a squeeky newspaper. She wont chase tennis balls and wont play with ropes.. have to taunt her with a new toy for a few days to get her interested in the toy and to have her play with it. but her go-to toy is the mr man. I just thought it'd be fun to share ya "o no, look what you've done" or "o no, dont chew on that" moments... :-) not behavior issues. As all doggies chew on stuff. Her "mr. man" toy... Does anybody have any clue as to what it actually is??? save a life! Adopt!
Dempsy's Mom Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Yes Jeff is soooo cuuute. Demps doesn't chew on alot anymore. He has found more interest chasing kitties and riding gators. If he chews anything it would be when he plays tug of war with an old towel. He does still love his bully bones. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
Tuesday Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Murphy was never much of a chewer or destroyer of things. The worst it got was when he was between 8 and 16 weeks old and baby gated in the kitchen of the house we were trying to sell and chewed the corners on the Pella window sills and my rock maple hutch. Wood putty is a beautiful thing when living with a baby Jaws. I am very grateful, because there is one picture floating around this board of a Cairn who destroyed a couch or chair that makes me cringe, laugh out loud, and breath a sigh of relief that it isn't my dog all at the same time.
Malcolm's Dad Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Jeff n Oscar those pictures are so cute, thanks. Malcolm is really good, he only chews on his bones and ropes. So far the furniture has been safe.
Idaho Cairns Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Cairns love appendages on toys. Our dogs were given a Christmas plush toy with all of Santa's reindeers last year and before a day had passed, eighteen tiny antlers and nine tiny noses littered the floor. We still have the ball, denuded of antlers and noses but still squeaking away.
darkpantherbabe Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 lmao. bought sadie 2 new toys today. a rubber bouncy ball, and a navy blue squeeky ball. She loves them. Now why wont she play with tennis balls or ropes i have no clue. lol. with a 6month old baby in the apartment, i cringe to try the appendage style toys. Do Most cairns love Kongs? and if so whats the favorite treat/filling? I cringe at getting a puppy... all those needle - shark sharp pointy teeth to destroy my recliner and lovely couch.... yah... aint gunna happen! as much as I love puppies, aint no way! lol. and there is never a non-chewing puppy... lol.... O. I also bought a raccoon, and lets say that within 15 minutes, it was demolished... Racc #2. I have given up on that... I gave her a firm lecture that she better take care of her chipmunk squeeky if she wants a stuffy. lol. She loves stuffed animals and will at times sneak into my oldest daughter's bedroom to steal one of her small stuffed animals out of the tote. lol. we now(as of today) keep the smaller ones at the BOTTOM of the tote and the great big huge ones on top... lol. Cairns tend to be a typical terrier, i have discovered when demolishing stuffy's 'n stuff squeekies. lol.... and know why they are called "terrier" its because they "terror"ize stuff animals and small animals alike. lol. save a life! Adopt!
Hapzen Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Thia once eat a balloon.... i didnt know until I saw her poop was covered in purple rubber   Helene & Thia
ScruffynMag Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I'm loving reading about your dogs stealing each others toys just to cause trouble Scruffy is a chewer, it used to be cushions all the time but he's calmed down a bit now. Stuffed toys last 2 minutes but he has a squeaky ball that he's had from being very small and he's not destroyed it yet. He chewed a massive hole in one of the throws right under our noses, he was just laying on the sofa and we didn't notice how he was chewing very discreetly www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
Jeff N Oscar Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I didn't mean for those pics to be so large... I have to work on that haha I found the emoticons!!! watchout! I became a dog person AFTER I got my dog.
janis Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Came home last night to what I thought was his favorite stuffed frog - stuffing guts all over the office. It is the strangest thing, which makes him a total cairn, but he'll have a favorite of all the toys in his box, lick it, play tug of war with it, want me to through it for him, then out of no where he guts it! The purple balloon thing was FUNNY. I sent DH a Happy Anniversary balloon with flowers last month. He brought it home and Kirby went nuts. We finally just let the balloon float around the ceiling and he had pretty much ignored it. Then the other day it hit the ceiling fan and made this bump bump noise and Kirby just went crazy! He was jumping up on the couch and chairs barking snarling and making some really weird noises - like either he or the balloon might be possessed! We got the balloon down and let him attack it, he destroyed it in about 2 minutes flat! Pranced around like he had defeated the aliens in Independence Day!

Jeff does the same thing... I call it "working on his toy" ... just for some reason he feels the need to destroy it, and not in a crazy way, but he starts on a spot and keeps "working it" until he have ripped a hole and ruined it. lol sparkling poop... yeah I would of posted the picture!! I became a dog person AFTER I got my dog.
darkpantherbabe Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 LMAO. purple covered poop. How can a dog eat a balloon? lol. save a life! Adopt!
josie&holly Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Holly will chew and bite holes in towels but not when I am drying her. If she is damp after a walk I will put an old one in her bed that is in the kitchen - so sh gets in and starts to attack it!! She gets dry in process.............. www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
Meggie Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 The major thing that is problematic with Hubble in this department...I can't even post for fear of being banned/offending He is obsessed with my hairbrushes though. God forbid I leave them somewhere he can get them, he drags them around and chews the handles.
KShep Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I often laugh recalling Tracy's story: Sparkling Poop. Ha! I sleep in earplugs. I can't sleep without them- I think I have a problem . I buy them by the barrel! If ever Ripley finds a purple foam earplug, it is ingested whole! And you know- out they come in the backyard!
darkpantherbabe Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 lmao at the stories and what cairns will do.... On both raccoons that sadie destroyed, was at opposite ends... first time was the butt, i managed to re-stuff it and put the squeeker back into it and sew it up... then she went after it again, at the neck. and that time she did it soo "good" that i had to just chuck it, there was NO way to repair it. lol. And the 2nd raccoon... well let me say this... she be-headed it then chewed on the butt then de-stuffed the thing then demolished the squeeker. lol. yah... i didn't even attempt to re-stuff, re-squeek, sew that one up. i just picked it all up and threw it away. and she gave me a triumph look when she saw that i spotted it. she has yet to kill the chipmunk.. waiting for that moment when i come home from work to see the guts all over the place and the head 'n body seperated. save a life! Adopt!
