KShep Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 I found this picture when searching for celebrities and Cairns. I know it's late...I can't sleep and this is the result!! I don't think this is Ashanti's dog. I think he played opposite her in "The Wiz". Anyways, what a good looking Cairn! Love him! FYI: Two famous Cairn owners- Liza Minelli and Wallis Simpson While I'm on the subject- Greyfriars Bobby: I am convinced that he was a Cairn. Originally, all of the "scottish" terriers were referred to as Skye Terriers. The name Cairn Terrier was decided in 1909, Bobby died in 1872. Which means, his breed cannot be verified. Contrary to what all Skye Terrier owners may claim!
pkcrossley Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 his statue in edinburgh doesn't look like that, he has flop ears there. we have an earlier thread on this. there is an ancestral stock of west scotland terriers from which the breeds are derived. since cairns were about the last to be booked, i think they were the last to be separated from the general stock, and still remain the most varied today. i certainly don't think bobby could have been what we would now call a skye, but he was what was called a skye (or roughie) at the time.
Newman Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 That dog looks ugly lol They need to groom his ears my god lol Click to show the full size image!
sanford Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 KShep - Thanks for the glamorous photo of cairn+Ashanti. The hair & makeup staff did an excellent job on both of them! FEAR THE CAIRN!

I searched the forum before I posted and couldn't find anything for "greyfriars". I agree with you though! Must have been a roughie- love the term. I think using Skye today only confuses people because of the modern Skye. I kind of feel guilty saying it though because we have Toto and the Skye Terrier is heading towards extinction. Bobby is their one claim to fame! Anyways, the picture I posted is also listed on Wikipedia as an Albumen print. So, it's supposedly an actual photograph if this info is correct.
eastofeden Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I was recently reading about Greyfriars Bobby & accordng to The Guardian it was a story concocted to attract tourists: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/aug/04/greyfriars-bobby-story-scam-lure-tourists It is still a great story! And when I visit Edinburgh I am still going to take a photo with that statue. Raise your expectations for what your Cairn can do....and try very hard to meet your Cairn's expectations of you.
