pindrop Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Someone mentioned something in a response post that got me to thinking. Who does your dog favor, or turn to when wanting attention or is hurt? Since I've been retired, Layla is constantly at my ankles - no matter where I am in the house. As I'm one of those that doesn't sit for long periods, Layla will constantly follow my progress throughout the house as I go about cleaning or whatever I am doing. Hawkeye Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I tell my hubby Radar is his and Bailey is mine mainly at night because Bailey loves to curl up with me in the evening and Radar loves to lay beside daddy (mind you - no cuddling that's for sissies). But otherwise they both listen to the two of us and are thrilled to see both of us. When they have to be disciplined, they right away will go to the other person as if "crying daddy yelled at me". (Sounds like when my kids were young.)
Jeff N Oscar Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 ME... I am the one they hang with most, ask things of, expect things from, listen to best, come to first, check by way of eye contact if they actually NEED to listen to anyone esle that is talking to them (ya know, uless that said person has a treat, then all the above applies to that person, haha) Of course this all makes sense when you know that I am in the home with them more than anyone else, treat them better than anyone else, give them more than anyone else, know them better than anyone else... it goes on like that. I absolutely L O V E it too. I must mention here that I am an only girl in my family, with 6 brother, plus 1 half brother, plus 2 step brothers, 2 sons and 1 husband, so I am used to being treated special, I think maybe our Cairns can sense that too. I became a dog person AFTER I got my dog.
hheldorfer Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Buffy is a daddy's girl. She worships the ground DH walks on and would do anything for him . . . and vice versa. BUT, if she gets an ouchie or isn't feeling well she comes to me. I guess mommies are the ones they come to when things aren't going right. It's sort of cute, though, and at least I feel like I still serve a purpose.
Lynn in TN Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Kelly is a puppy still and it is hard to tell. I guess it would depend on what is going on. If the whole family goes shopping together and she has to stay home, when we get home the first and the last person she goes to is my oldest son. She will go straight to him for a minute then the rest of us, then she goes back to him. He spoils her rotten, and never fusses at her, she always gets what she wants with him. When my youngest son gets off the school bus she gets so excited she pees all over the place, does all the cute stuff at his feet, but yet she doesn't want him to hold her. She dearly loves the DH and gets jealous ,if I kiss him then she does to and tries to root me away LOL. If we are all at home and she needs something she comes to me. Normally I know what she wants or can figure it out quick. I guess that's because I am raising two children as well. I see only one difference in raising a Cairn and raising Children the Cairn bites a lot more often. LOL
Sam I Am Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I am Jock's favorite person, because lets face it, the person that feeds you, snuggles up and talks to you is a sure bet. Having said that Jock's Dad, my DH, is the boss Go figure. When I call Jock to come inside, I get that Cairn "look" and stance... you can't possibly be talking to me... you are the half boss! When my DH calls him there isnt a moments hesitation. I never have figured that one out. Jeff N Oscar Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 She dearly loves the DH and gets jealous ,if I kiss him then she does to and tries to root me away LOL. lol we have family hugs here. When my husband gets home from work or any other time we are hugging, Jeff wants in on it. I pull out a kitchen chair so he can get close on his own and then I scoop him up to join in. Or we will go by the stairs and hubby will sit while I lean in for a hug, Jeff loves that way cause he has full access all on his own. He mostly wants to get a lick in, and sometimes I am laughing so much that he sneaks in a lil tongue GROSS!! I am laughing now thinking of his eagerness to find a face in the hug, lol I became a dog person AFTER I got my dog.

janis Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 (mind you - no cuddling that's for sissies) Same here! Kirby is not into cuddling. That being said, he follows me from room to room and plants himself where ever I am. Like Terrier Lover, he " I get that look and stance like are you talking to me" and he comes in 99% of the time called by DH. But, he goes completely berserk and actually SITS in my oldest son's lap if he comes home for the weekend, not for long though, cause cuddling is for sissies! I guess Kirby is like all his Cairn cousins: Layla, Radar, Jock, Fonzy, all of them!
Idaho Cairns Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Without a doubt my wife Fran is the focus of their attention. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that she can let them lie next to her without petting them--I can't keep my hands off and I think that irritates them to a certain extent--they want to be close to a human but they don't want to be disturbed. At least that's my excuse for being treated like chopped liver some of the time.
TazTalk Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 We feel the love pretty equally here. Taz does have a special bond with DH since he is home more often. And DH allows him to lick his face way more than me .. I avoid the tongue contact as much as possible but DH encourages it!
Dempsy's Mom Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 It's me. Demps loves that we run around and do things and Jim would never take the time to take care of a dog. However Demps loves to tease Jim and he definitely has a special place. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
utgaard Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 They are both with me almost all the time I'm home. About the only exception is when DH is cooking and drops something on the floor in the kitchen. Who rescued whom?

Idaho Cairns - You've just described me & Ruffy to a T, except that I would love it if Ruffy treated me like chopped liver... He loves chopped liver! FEAR THE CAIRN!
Meggie Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Once, we put Hubble in the middle of the room and we both called him to us and he never budged He favors my bf for play but me for comfort...and when he's in trouble because he thinks I'll save him from punishment
Hapzen Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Its me that feed her, take walks with her, train with her... but still she loves my boyfriend the most But I also groom her, yell at her and touch her (to look for tits and other things in the coat) so maybe she thinks im a bit annoying Helene & Thia
