Your crate or mine?

Jeff N Oscar

Oscar was sleeping soundly in his crate when Jeff was sent to bed for the night. He squeezed into Oscar's crate, without disturbing Oscar UNTIL I grabbed the camera for a quick picture,(Jeff does not like his picture taken) Oscar awoke from the movements and seemed a bit concerned that Jeff was "behind" him, and Jeff looks quite guilty of something. I had to share! AND hubby told me last night that Oscar did the same in Jeff's crate. I wonder if they would like 1 larger crate to share at bedtime???

I had to use Photobucket becauser when I tried to upolad from my computer I keep getting a message "this file was too big to upload" when I try to put the picture in :(

JeffmovinginonOscar.jpg

they usually do a dance throughout the day, each switching between the two crates we have... there isn't really a difference and neither dog seems to claim a particular crate. It's funny to watch on somedays when they seem to be after the same crate.. one comes out and the other goes in. Once the crate is empty again the other one gets back in. But they do it with both crates the same. I had the two crates side by side with the towels over both of them so they could be next to and see each other, maybe I should go back to that :)

Thanks for the help Bradl

Photobucket works fine and they even have a thing that automatically provides forum IMG (image) code to embed your image into a forum post. If you hover your mouse over your photo on photobucket, it pops up an IMG code box that contains the code, like so:

[img=http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l600/Pvgilberts/JeffmovinginonOscar.jpg]

Which if you paste that into your post here, gives this:

JeffmovinginonOscar.jpg

You can also use a free online service like Picnik to resize your photos and save them back to your own photobucket account (or flickr, or picasa, or your computer). As usual, I recommend an image-hosting site over attachments (since eventually you will run out of attachment space).

Thanks for sharing the photos!

We had dachshunds growing up and they always snuggled in one large bed and one large crate. So sweet. BFFs! :innocent:

I am of the opinion that Cairns enjoy companionship of other dogs and will develop close relationships within the household. While ours generally spend the night in separate places they often rest together side by side. If yours are attempting to snuggle with each other, I would advise encouraging the behavior by getting a crate large enough for both--the closer your two dogs are to each other, the better it is for them and you.

I love the photo of your dogs--looks like you have a good thing going there.

Or, if you have the space, put the 2 crates back-to-back; flip down the backs, put the pillows back on top of the folded down 'rears', then clip the 2 crates together. You'll have a door on each end that way.

can anyone tell that I've been hand stripping Jeff. Yep I took him out back, got a leash to suspend from our gazebo and go around his neck, pulled the table over to center the leash, gave him a good brushing, put on 4 latex finger covers and started to pull out the longer hairs. I have more to do, but I can see his face looks better, less shaggy and also the hairs on his chest area are looking better. I started plucking and the hairs started just about fall out. He was a bit antsy at first, but after 15-20 mins he realized I was serious and he accepted my rapid plucking. It's a bit fun to do, sort of a rhythym to the pluking as I went around in sections. I am going to try to do a little more tomorrow and hope to have him fully stripped soon. I'll post more pics as I progress!

That is a lovely photo of the two dogs in crate together! How nice they want to be with each other like that.

Wouldn't you just love to know what they are really thinking?! They are so cute. They even have different expressions when they sleep. Very expressive dogs.

I often wish Packy & Kirby would cuddle up like that, but they've never done it. They each have their own napping and sleeping places and never share. Now Packy will go in Kirby's crate once in a while. We've never figured out why he does that, maybe just wants a change of scenery?

I agree with this statement. I would encourage it also, as dogs are pack animals and they would share if in the wild. I think it is great that you have 2 dogs sharing so willingly. Beautiful pictures!

My cairn and chessie cuddle all the time. I have to agree that dogs are pack animals and are much happier with a companion. I got my cairn as a companion for my retriever and they became fast friends. It's easier leaving them when we know they got each other.

We brought them to kennel and the owner wanted to seperate them. He wanted to keep my cairn inside with the little dogs. It took some convincing that she liked being outside and was OK with big dogs. Helped by the fact she was playing with a great Dane and chow. When we picked them up all he said is those two are definately buddies. When I figure out how to post pics a I'll post some of them together.

The pic of Jeff n Oscar is insanely cute!!! I like the above suggestions of somehow connecting the crates (kind of like hotel rooms that have the connecting door in the middle). My two, while friendly with eachother, never snuggle. They might lay on the floor together for a brief time (5 min), but that's it. I'm glad that your two are so close. More pics please!!!!

They have all day to cuddle in the crates together if they want to... but they don't. They are either in seperate crates or at different places around the house. As I type this Jeff is on the couch and Oscar is in A crate. They have not cuddled with each other, it's just those few moments at bed time that they went into the occupied crate, but the second dog in did not get to lay down. My husband called Jeff out this night after I took the picture so I don't know IF they would of stayed together. I'm thinking one of them would exit the crate if the other didn't move. I tried connecting the crates, but it didn't make a safe crate, it left areas for injury to their paws. I'll put more thought into it and maybe spring for a larger crate they can both use.

That is a great picture. The boys are hanging out. Isn't it funny how Cairns always need to touch someone. I wish i could take a picture of Oscar with my little boy sleeping together. It's actually difficult to spilt them apart.

More pics please!!!!

I just added some to our gallery

Those pictures are just great! What is it about picknik tables that Cairns love so much? Ours just can't resist climbing up and watching the world go by on them--it must be an outdoors thing, a place where they can get an elevated look at their world for a bit. We are also used to dog snotted windows (or sliders in our case)--it comes with the territory.

Some lovely photos there! Love Oscar's colouring and the contrast between the two dogs.

I think I figured it out. These two are best of friends and proves two dogs are easier than one.
