Idaho Cairns Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Ok, a couple of videos for your enjoyment. First showing little Bonnie losing her tennis ball in the pond--poor thing was determined to retrieve it but her mouth is just too small to carry it and not take on too much water. She stood sadly on the shore and watched it blow away. Sammi who is the stronger swimmer refused to retrieve it for her--snot! Then, you have seen Sammi in the rain, in the snow, in the water, chasing thunder and lightning--how about a hailstorm! The other dogs are my daughters Zoey the Cairn and Pixie the Pyrenees mix. Enjoy.
Meggie Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 I'm so jealous your dogs like swimming! Bonnie's attempts to snatch the ball were hysterical! Sammi is too cute and funny and the pyrenees is gorgeous!!
percy's_girl Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Sammi, I laughed so hard watching you try to get that hail!
hheldorfer Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Great videos of wonderful dogs. Gotta love Sammi's energy and attitude!
Dempsy's Mom Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Poor little Bonnie and her ball - I felt bad that she didn't get her ball. But Sammi was sure having fun with the hail. Very cute clips - I loved watching Sammi run back n' forth. LOL Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
bradl Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Aw, Bonnie ... the looks over her shoulder ... she really wanted that ball! CAIRNTALK: Questions? Need help? → Support Forum Please do not use PMs for tech support CRCTC: Columbia River Cairn Terrier Club | 2025 Calendar
Idaho Cairns Posted August 31, 2011 Author Posted August 31, 2011 Bonnie reminded me of a child that had lost their helium filled balloon. She kept her eye on the ball until it disappeared from sight. We have found some smaller tennis balls for her now so she can make a water retrieve with them. She won't go after a stick like Sammi does--only those balls interest her. Fortunately we had another tennis ball in the motorhome so she wasn't without one for the trip.
bradl Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Is she ball-crazy on dry land, too? CAIRNTALK: Questions? Need help? → Support Forum Please do not use PMs for tech support CRCTC: Columbia River Cairn Terrier Club | 2025 Calendar
Jeff N Oscar Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 AWwwww she almost had it back to the dock... too bad she lost it... so cute watching her try. OMG Sammi is so funny chasing the hail...I loved it. Just goes to show how tough a Cairn is, they can stand up to a hail storm. Thanks for posting these videos!! LOVE them both I became a dog person AFTER I got my dog.
Idaho Cairns Posted August 31, 2011 Author Posted August 31, 2011 Is she ball-crazy on dry land, too? To the point of being irritating. She wants a ball thrown for her constantly. She is the most toy oriented Cairn I have seen.
josie&holly Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Both those videos are great fun - thanks for giving me a morning chuckle! Sorry for Bonnie trying get ball but Sammi racing round for the hailstones is hilarious! www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
bradl Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Yeah, the ball-obsession thing often seems to go deep for some dogs. Echo and Stella will play with them, but they'll play with anything. Dundee's mother was a ball-nut and he appears to be too. A friend had a ball-nut who was scratching at a closet door at another friend's house. "You must have a ball in there" she said. "No way, there's not a ball in the house!" said the homeowner, "Look, I'll show you" as they opened the closet door. Dog dives into the back of the closet and comes out with an ancient tennis ball. Ah well, Bonnie's a great swimmer! Get her on a water polo team CAIRNTALK: Questions? janis Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Chuck, great videos as always! Love watching your dogs! Cairn videos, great way to start the morning.
Hawkeye Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Poor little Bonnie- she's so darn cute. I thought she was going to end up on the other side of the pond. And then Sammi attacking the hail. That's great! Leave it to the females - I have to cowardly males when it comes to rain drops..hahaha Thanks for the videos.
Idaho Cairns Posted August 31, 2011 Author Posted August 31, 2011 I have decided that Sammi just loves "weather"--she wants to be out in it no matter what, cold, wet, windy she revels in it. Bonnie is pretty tough but nothing like Sammi. I guess it is some deep down instinctive genetic throwback to her ancestors in Scotland. Nothing throws her--last night we had a massive lightning storm move thru and she was growling until we went to the upper deck where she would watch the light show and complain about the noise some more--I get scared that she is going to jump off sometimes. Our first two Cairns were much more prissy about getting wet and ruffled than the current two and it really makes being with them fun because they don't hold back. Which should explain my enthusiasm for Cairns--I had Labs for years and loved them and their exuberant attitude toward everything and anyone--Cairns are much the same without the shedding and the huge tails that are constantly in danger of upsetting something. I had to call Bonnie off the ball in the water, I know she would have nosed it far out in the water. If you listen carefully you can hear her little "squeaks" as she inhales a breath while working so hard to get some purchase on that ball--just so determined. Fun dogs to be around--not for everyone but certainly for those of us here that understand what treasures they are.
remltr Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 The storm video kind of reminded of the scene in the movie Animal House where all the frat members are sitting in the room all bummed out about the being expelled and John Belushi (Bluto) tries to inspire them: Bluto: Hey! What's all this laying around stuff? Why are you all still laying around here for? Stork: What the hell are we supposed to do, ya moron? We're all expelled. There's nothing to fight for anymore. D-Day: [to Bluto] Let it go. War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one. Bluto: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! Otter: [to Boon] Germans? Boon: Forget it, he's rolling. Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... [thinks hard of something to say] Bluto: The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! [bluto runs out, alone; then returns] Sassy Jan 22, 2005 AM. CH. THARRBARR LITE MY FIRE ZOMERHOF
kjwarnold Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Great videos! Mine don't seem to mind what kind of weather is out there, they're just happy to go out in it. And you know how my boys feel about water and swimming... Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
ScruffynMag Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Thanks for sharing the video's, really enjoyed watching them. Poor Bonnie, I thought she was going to swim right across to the other side trying to get her ball. www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
Lynn in TN Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I can never get enough of Bonnie and Sammi. I too, felt sorry for Bonnie. So sweet trying to get her ball. Sammi and the hail storm so funny, It was like watching a bigger Kelly during the last thunder storm but with rain instead of hail. I don't know if Kelly will be like Sammi when it comes to hail, and snow, but I can't wait to find out. They seem so much alike. Thank you for sharing 2 great videos, they made my day!
Sam I Am Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 What great videos! It summarizes the pure joy that Cairns feel about life in general. Poor Bonnie... .... she wanted that ball soooo badly. Glad you called her back, something tells me she would keep at it till she started to sink Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Zekey's Mom Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Loved the way Bonnie kept "popping" the ball ahead of her. Glad she made it back! And the hail video... I was thinking, gee, I wonder what kind of dog that medium-sized one is? Then I realized, that's Sammi! The size difference is very clear in this video. The way Sammi kept reaching up to catch the hail is exactly the same as Gavin trying to catch clumps of snow when they slide off a tree.
