KShep Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Has anyone tried anything besides bully sticks? Texas Toothpicks go way too fast, and trachea smells horrible! LOL Sometimes I like to change it up a bit for Ripley and give her a treat every now and then
Sam I Am Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 I am a big fan of raw marrow bones. I dig out the marrow as it upsets Jocks tummy but the marrow bones dont break away like other bones and it gives Jock hours of entertainment. I never leave him alone with a bone however and always check on him to make sure the bone is still intact. Also never give bones on an empty tummy, Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Malcolm's Dad Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Malcolm gets bones called kneecaps. I had been giving him beef knuckle bones until I read a post by jimnconnie. Bailey chipped a tooth on the knuckle bone. The kneecaps are hard and last a few days. They don't seem as hard as the knuckle bone so the kneecap shouldn't chip a tooth.
DawnandTuk-tuk Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 If you have a specialty pet food store nearby you might try to find sweet potato and duck treats. These don't last a long time but boooyyy are they considered yummy by every dog I've ever given them too (I give them as X-mas presents to doggy pals). They wrap a bit of dried duck breast around dried sweet potato.

Do you cook it or give it raw? Tracy, Amos, Walter, Brattwrust & Mettwurst a.k.a The Gremlins
kjwarnold Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Raw marrow bones. I find them in the beef section of our meat department. The marrow doesn't seem to bother my boys, so I just leave it in. I buy a package of bones and put them in the freezer in 2-packs (I have 2 Cairns). I get them out periodically and give them the frozen bones out on the porch. They chew a while and then I pick them up and put them back in the freezer for another day. Packy & Kirby especially love them on hot summer days! Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Sam I Am Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Jock gets bison marrow bones which I defrost. The marrow gives a lot of dogs the hersey squirts (Jock included) so I dig it out. But I also know friends whose dogs dont react eating marrow... so its your call on that one. Cooked bones splinter so its raw bones. I do scrape off any fat... again because it causes issues with Jocks tummy Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
