Hi All

This isn't just about Cairns, but incorporates them as it's about all dogs

I got sent this today and this video is totally heartwarming and is a must for all dog lovers. You will all love it!

It's about new scientific research into the connection and super & extraordinary sensitive communication between dogs and humans, and it is absolutely fascinating.

Click on the video window, expand the view to full screen (bottom right corner of the video window) and Enjoy!

Absolutely fascinating - thank you so much for sharing that wonderful study. I always knew there was a connection between humans and dogs and that just goes to prove that it's not just one's imagination but in fact it actually does exist.

Ooo I must watch it! Have you seen Dogs Decoded. That's a fascinating one as well!

I just checked it out. Exact documentary, different name! (WEIRD) It's amazing how they bred aggression out of the foxes. Can't imagine having a little fox running around!

I had previously seen this video on PBS and enjoyed it. Thanks for posting it - I watched it all over again!

(It was sort of creepy that they used the skull of a cairn terrier -of all the dogs they might have chosen - to compare to the skull of a wolf!).blush.gif

FEAR THE CAIRN!

I found the experiment in Siberia particularly interesting with the characteristic changes in the foxes, curly tails, floppy ears, etc. Also near the beginning when they were showing how people could consistently identify different types of barks by dogs other than their own. Very cool stuff. I would like to see the details of how the pointing experiment was conducted but ooo! loved it!

Tuk-tuk was ever the master at pointing. He could infer pointing behind objects such as walls, so if I stood in sight and pointed to an object behind a wall he understood what I intended. I was always impressed by that. He also understood pointing 'over there' as well (I would sit, point to something I wanted many feet away and he would look to see what I was pointing at...following the line of my finger...to go get it). Hmmm, perhaps he was smart like the border collie they featured. We also had a fairly evolved communication system. Honestly it's been somewhat frustrating with Surfer that for being a 'smart breed' she hasn't been able to pick up on a fraction of what Tuk knew. Still I see her starting to pick up some of my signals and I'm trying hard to figure her out - she's so cute & sweet it doesn't really matter.
