Yep, pretty much. And much, much more at that particular event.

The next casual event that I know of in the northwest is Columbia River club's Cairntastic Day in Oregon on Saturday September 3. We'll have a picnic, Cairn racing, etc. I hear someone is planning to have a Pooper Scooper Race - I don't know how that will work but I suspect it will be for the humans. Whenever and wherever Cairn people gather, there is likely to be grooming going on, so it's also a great chance to see what that's all about.

Here's a shot of the starting box from last year's racing. The dogs chase a lure attached to a string pulled along by a motor. They LOVE it.

HAHA Awesome I will put all my $$$ on fonzy, omg.. This looks so cool, I am going to try to find one near washington though oregon is a bit to far.

But I need to get some video of fonzy running and hunting he is like a fox, (prob all cairns are like this) but when fonzy runs and grabs the toy, he scoops it up up and snatches it like a hunting dog.. lol i need some video I will post here later

so coool

Hey bradl,

I realize that the picnic & the racing event haven't taken place yet, but how did all the other events turn out? Any photos for us?

Sincerely,

P.S. Oops! Right after I posted this I read your report of the Earthdog Test on July 30-31, posted in "The Sporting Cairn... Cattle Call" and I still can't stop laughing at your description of Stella's antics!

One question re:

"In Junior, Dundee took a $20 dump, just as Echo did during her Senior test..."

What does $20 dump mean? If it means what I think it does, I saw a cairn do this in the center of the ring during judging at Westminister at Madison Square Garden. Needless to say, all eyes were on this dog. Somebody sitting nearby mumbled, "Isn't that just like a cairn?".

FEAR THE CAIRN!

Yeah, it means pretty much what you think. In Senior and especially Master there is more time for some above-ground exploration and maybe even a quick potty, but in Junior they have only 30 seconds to reach the quarry so there's not a lot of time to waste. $20 test fee down the drain...

It was definitely my fault for not pottying him before, but our own dogs tend to get short shrift during tests we're working (Peggy was test secretary and I was test chair that weekend).

Regarding the center ring thing - a professional handler once told me, "What the heck ... it gives the judge more time to look at my dog!"
