hallswel Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Don't know any more than is in this story http://www.myfoxboston.com//dpp/news/local/26-dogs-rescued-from-hoarding-case-on-south-shore-20110723 Liz Rebel, Hammurabi, Sugar, Dirty Harry, Paint, Duncan and Saffron
Lynn in TN Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Well I can understand how one can become a Cairn hoarder. When I showed this to my kids they said call that number Mom tell them we will take all 26 of them. That was my first instinct too. I guess my kids are like me after all. They are beautiful.
Jayme Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I would take one if I lived closer and could talk my husband into it!
Hawkeye Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I did a search on the internet and there are several articles about these cairns, let's hope with the publicity this story received in the Boston area that people will go to the shelter wanting to adopt these dogs. It seems like when the media features a story like this the shelters get inundated with calls. Stories like this get me so upset...
MegsMom Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Word is, the shelter IS overwhelmed wth calls. Here is slightly more on the situation and vid of 3 of the cairns. So far, have not found out how many have pups or are pregnant, although 1 news site does show one mom with 2 very young pups. http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/12004934551296/dozens-of-dogs-found-in-marshfield-in-need-of-new-homes/#ixzz1TEF031X1
Newman Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Lets just say if I knew anyone with that many cairns thats obvious abuse, I will come to your house and knock on your door and give you 1 mighty punch right in the face and then call 9-11 and u will go to jail with me. I will stick up for the cairns. No need to start abusing animals especially a cairn terrier. Click to show the full size image!

Dempsy's Mom Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I am glad that they are getting overwhelmed with calls. Poor babes. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
hheldorfer Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Oh, my . . . they're beautiful, even after all they've been through. I showed the video to DH and he said "NO!". I hope they all find good homes. Maybe their new owners will show up here. We can hope!

pindrop Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Hherdorfer - your hubby and mine (Oldfox) must be brothers - he also says "nay nay" - and in our case we only have the one. I too hope that eventually all these pups will be released and into good homes. Would be nice if a few of the new owners were to find this site. Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
hallswel Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 I don't think there was any abusive to this. I think that it was probably someone who had them and at one time was able to take care of them...my guess is they got older and it got out of hand. I think often we take on more than we can handle....I'm just glad they are getting all the calls for adoptions Liz Rebel, Hammurabi, Sugar, Dirty Harry, Paint, Duncan and Saffron
bradl Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 As hallswel points out, it's not all that uncommon for someone to take on more than they can handle over the long term, and among the many sad aspects is that the price is often paid by others, such as innocent dogs, in addition to the person ostensibly affected. This is a problematic topic as it can so easily turn into rescue/placement discussion - violating forum guidelines - but I let it stay as a news story involving Cairns. CAIRNTALK: Questions? Lynn in TN Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Brad thanks for letting this story stay. It is a topic that needs to be discussed. I love seeing the video and the expressions on these little cuties faces. How happy they seem to be even though they have been through a lot. I believe like you and Hallswell that with hoarders they truly love the animals and have just bitten off more than they can chew or because of health issues with the owners it becomes more than they can handle and can't part with them. I can easily see how it can happen because seeing them and knowing their need makes a person want to take them all.
Karen Holloway Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Long time since have posted. I'm glad the post was allowed to stay. My feeling is that rescue/shelter pups need one last forever home. We all know Cairns can be trying at times. To have folks see their cute faces on TV and want one is great, but are folks aware of the "activity" level and needs of Cairns ? Who best to adopt a Cairn, but a current or past Cairn owner.
hheldorfer Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Hherdorfer - your hubby and mine (Oldfox) must be brothers - he also says "nay nay" Is your husband tall, skinny and right about everything, too?
pindrop Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Tall as in 6'6" - yes - skinny - well almost - smart about everything - the most important thing for him is he thinks he is (but we know better - wink) Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
Lynn in TN Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 My husband is 6 foot, I'm 5'3. My husband didn't say no. He said the dogs were beautiful. I wonder why he didn't say no? Maybe it is because I don't know what it means.
dianer Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Oh my, 26 cairns. That is almost too many to fathom. If I did that my vet would get a new swimming pool. The pup we are considering, Dewey, was taken from a home in Red Bluff CA that had too many dogs, but I think it was more a case of breeding for profit without providing care for them. Either way the dogs suffer. They do need forever homes and it is a serious responsibility. The wheaten cairn in the first video looks just like our Leo. He even sighs like him when he lays down his head. Our Leo is a rescue too. I am just a huge softy when it comes to cairns, not on a soap box or anything. There are responsible breeders out there that don't make the news and I do appreciate them.
Jeff N Oscar Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Jeff does that same growling when he sees something out of place in our home... it is too cute to me. Thanks for sharing this story. Probably good thing that Boston is too far away for me to adopt from. We added Oscar the beginning of May and he has such a little impact it's almost like we still just have one Cairn, lol. I became a dog person AFTER I got my dog.
