KShep Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I have seen these on ebay recently. http://cgi.ebay.com/Frontline-Plus-dogs-0-22-lb-6-month-kit-/260810760643?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb98861c3 I'm very hesitant about buying pet meds off Ebay in the first place. I think the method is interesting, but I am skeptical. What they say is that for a dog under 22 lbs, buy one pipette of the largest frontline plus, an airtight glass vial, and a 1 ml syringe and split it into 6 doses. I think it's a great idea if you have multiple dogs (seeing as every pipette has the same active ingredients, but just more), but how well does one pipette of frontline plus hold up for one dog over a period of 6 months after being repeatedly exposed to oxygen. Won't it affect the integrity of the product? I'm thinking they must be packaged that way for a reason. However, if it is safe and effective- I would be the first to try it. I don't think I would purchase the actual topical off of ebay, but I would try to split doses and get as much bang for my buck as possible. Great way to save money. I just started Ripley on Pet Armor Plus and have been happy with the results. I have a 6 mo supply. So I'm not considering this at the moment, but would love to hear feedback.
MegsMom Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 No fears. Unopened they say no expiration date.....but they won't say if opened. Can say no problems using the 'kit' method; I've been doing it for a year and a half, just stuck the vial in the freezer as an added 'help'. The base liquid is an oil and oil just doesn't 'dry up' very well:) Just paid $30 for 18mos supply, I do only buy from US sellers--although I'd trust Merial AUS, too. New supply should last us through next summer.

MegsMom Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Not at all. Only had a 'one-off' that I suspect was because of neighbor's moth-eaten-looking, itching cat visiting my yard; that's solved--I dosed him! My boy apparently got one on his tail and I missed his chewing, so one small bald spot. I have an allergy-prone kid, too, so a couple of smears of cortisone stopped my boy's itching --not that easy on an allergy kid. But otherwise, neither kid has had any fleas in... well, I can't recall when. This year may yet prove different, we're in an extreme drought, but I'm betting the fleas aren't hatching until conditions improve--you know they can do that. When we get any rain, they may hatch in hordes.
lindasue Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 I was just reading an article about flea/tick protection and how to bring down the costs. It was a Consumer Report that said that the patent of one of the active ingredients in Frontline, fipronil, has expired and now there are two good substitutes; Petco's Sentry-FiproGuard Plus or Walmart's PetArmor Plus. Both got good reviews. I see that KShep uses PetArmor; anyone else tried them, and with what results? I need to get Pegi a new supply next week, so this timing is perfect! Linda & Pegi

Jayme Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 My vet does this. Uses a Large dog vial and divides it up.
Nena Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I do it also. buy largest size and get 4 uses out of it. I keep it in the original container and just suck up what I will need in a needleless syringe. Works get and saves money. cairn terriers leave pawprints on our lives
Marty & Sherry Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 We have done it for several years now. Saves a ton of money when you have 3 or 4 (or more).
The Cairn Farm Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 We do the same thing! Our vets recommended it so I buy the largest Frontline Plus 6 months pack I can and then split it between our 2 dogs and 2 cats. It works great, with no problems here!
Tracy A. Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I've been doing this for several years with K9 advantix. I am so leary of buying any kind of med on Ebay. here is what you can do, fosters and smith sells frontline and you can buy syringes without a RX... they are like 30 cents each or so... I would go that route rather than the ebay route. I buy a 6 pack of the largest size dog on the k9advantix and it lasts me 2 years. Tracy, Amos, Walter, Brattwrust & Mettwurst a.k.a The Gremlins
