Well, we probably won't be invited to anymore birthday parties...

I am so embarrassed right now!! My neighbor invited Percy and me over this afternoon for her dog's birthday party. Percy and the neighbor dog are good friends and I'm not doing anything today so I figured why not. One of her friends also brought over her puppy. Percy has some dog aggression with new dogs (usually just dogs that are bigger; she's usually obsessed with puppies no matter what size they are), so I picked her up just in case when the puppy came in. She was a little bit barky with the puppy at first but then figured out he was great fun to play with (he's some kind of Pom mix). So the three of them were having a good time and then another guest showed up with his beagle. Percy went ballistic! She usually will calm down and make friends, but she didn't want that beagle in the house and would not stop carrying on (the beagle completely ignored her). So we ended up leaving the party early because I couldn't calm her down and was so embarrassed at how she was acting. Even once we got outside she wouldn't leave their front door...I had to carry her back to my house. The funny thing is I live in a townhouse and my neighbor and I have the same floorplan. Percy got in our house and was running all over whinning and looking for the beagle! I think that might have been Percy's first and last party invite!

At least you had a good time for a little while. I hope it isn't his last invitation.

Oh my! Perhaps you should stick with parties where Beagles aren't attending. LOL I had to laugh when I read this because my Westie HATED Beagles and would go nuts anytime he was around one. He never did that with any other breed....just Beagles! I hope it isn't her last party invitation. Look at the bright side - at least she didn't react that way to the dog who was having the birthday! ;)

Ah, a party to remember! Percy was obviously not swearing 'cause it sounds like no one reacted except the humans. Guess she doesn't like beagles for reasons known only to her.

Oh, to bad the beagle showed up - three is a party four is a crowd. Percy was having so much fun -if she does invite you next year just bring a sign and hang it on the door before you go in "No Beagles Allowed." :P

Ha ha! At Easter, I was visiting my parents and Currey was tethered by the front door (he must be tethered at all times, per mom's rules) and he made his famous "doggy in a blender" sound for a solid 5 minutes after a beagle walked by. You know what sound I'm talking about, right? The one where you come running because even though you *know* he's safe inside, he must have been hit by a massive truck. If you don't know it, I found a gem of an old post that illustrates it beautifully: http://www.cairnterrier.org/forum/topic/9847-anyone-want-to-make-their-cairn-go-nuts/

Anyway, my parents had never heard this gem of a vocalization and were really surprised and somewhat appalled! So, we visited again for Father's Day and were out for a walk at the same time as the offending beagle. Currey gave him one good sniff, and then just totally ignored his existence. Not a peep, not a sound, not an ounce of aggression or excitement. Go figure!

Hope you get invited to more parties!

Yes, I'm thankful she didn't act this way towards the birthday boy. Although she did find his food bowl right away, full of food, and began to chow down!

Love the doggy in a blender description...that about sums it up! And who would have thought beagles were such an offensive breed to cairns!

There are certain dog chemistries that just don't work!

Taz also has "issues" with big dogs. It seems like he's afraid of them, so to make up for it, he initiates aggressiveness. Napoleon complex.

The one time I had to break up a dog fight at the dog park (and I got bit) was with Taz and a beagle!

I don't think it's likely that you'd see a Cairn/Beagle mix out there! :ermm:
