Tuesday Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 A co-worker and I were listening to her gazillion songs on her iPod, trying to decide on some music for a skit we'll be doing at the end of the months for a manager's meeting. We listened to all sorts of stuff, and laughed at a lot of it. The music from Benny Hill came on, and I couldn't stop laughing, because that right there is Murphy's Theme Song! We almost always keep a leash on him, and he knows when the leash comes off, that it means that zoomies are allowed and encouraged. We were leaving to meet some friends for dinner a while back and the leash came off before he got into his box, and off he went - and it took two of us (and about 10 minutes) to try to out maneuver and out wit this wee little beast. I just wondered if any of you have ever heard a song and think of your Cairn?
BetsyNoodle Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 The one song I most associate with Murphy and sing to him all the time is "You Are My Sunshine." He also LOVES "A Bushel and a Peck" and "Aba Daba Honeymoon". He will sing along when he feels like it. If I am following behind him and watching that cute little Cairn butt-wiggle I just can't help but hum a few of the tunes from the Wizard of Oz.
Lynn in TN Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Foggy Mountain Breakdown by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs it was played in the old black and white movie Bonnie And Clyde. It seems to suite her and me!
pindrop Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I tripped over this song on YouTube "Somewhere over the Rainbow" rendition and really like this guy's voice. I later found out that he passed away and in the video - Hawaiian style - they buried his ashes at sea which you will see in the video. I wanted to share this song with you all. Hope you like it as well. Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
Dempsy's Mom Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Love this song of IZ's. Thanks. Dempsy does need a theme song ... I will have to get on it. Most of our songs are in regard to whatever we are up to. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
finncaraid Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Pindrop, thanks for the video- that guy had a beautiful voice. As for theme songs, DH sings Danny Boy, substituting Finny for Danny, all the time to Finn. Not sure he knows all the words or what it's about even but who cares. Finn likes it. I've started singing the first lines of the Stones "Start Me Up" to Finn. You know, "if you start me up, start me up, I'll never stop", repeat. Seems appropriate right now. When we're out walking & I'm trying to get Finn's attention, I do the wicked witch-----I'll get you my pretty & your little dog, too---------in the crackly voice & hum her theme song to him. He thinks it's great fun. So far we haven't found that "one" song.
Idaho Cairns Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Oh, no doubt about it, every time I think of my dogs and their attitudes, I think of the following song--it just seems to fit their personalities so much. Turn the volume up and enjoy!
Hawkeye Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Pindrop, I'm with you...I absolutely love that song!! Didn't know he passed away thou. I haven't given it much thought as to their song. Probably the theme song to the old TV series Mash. Since I have a Radar and Bailey's real name is Hawkeye.
TazTalk Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 The Fleetwood Mac song Gypsy ... for Gypsy of couse. And Taz ... any circus music. Life under the big tent
tomatosandwich Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Divot does indeed have a theme song! Divot Dog, Divot Dangerous. Living large, So mischievious! I don't know the name of the tune we sing it too, though!
Sam I Am Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Thanks for playing Scotland the brave Idaho! It was my mothers favorite song (she was a true blue highlander) and upon hearing it would always get a tear in her eye. It really is the native song for all our little fur balls. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
BetsyNoodle Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Pindrop, that is one of my favorite renditions of "Over the Rainbow". It was played at Tim Russert's funeral. As the guests left the church they were amazed to see a beautiful rainbow in the sky. Another favorite of mine is Eva Cassidy's version. I played it for my Min Pin when he grew very frail just before he passed, and it seemed to calm him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccCnL8hArW8 Both of these amazing artists died too young but left incredible musical legacies.

Slow and awfully serious, but I can't help it ... he's slowing down too, and he's changed my life -- I sort of choke up if I think about him very philosophically. CAIRNTALK: Questions? Idaho Cairns Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Thanks for playing Scotland the brave Idaho! It was my mothers favorite song (she was a true blue highlander) and upon hearing it would always get a tear in her eye. It really is the native song for all our little fur balls. Interestingly, this version is sung by a Canadian tenor John McDermott, born in Scotland and it is one of my favorite versions of this fine old song. It really catches the spirit of our little wonders I think. "John Charles McDermott (born March 25, 1955) is a Scottish-Canadian tenor best known for his rendering of the song "Danny Boy". Born in Glasgow, Scotland, John moved with his family to Willowdale, Ontario, Canada in 1965. Growing up in a musical family, his only formal musical training was at St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, Ontario in 1971 and 1972."
Lynn in TN Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I really like Scotland The Brave also. I also like my Bluegrass as it originated in my beautiful Appalachian Mountains by my Scottish and Irish ancestors. As there was nothing much to do in our area I grew up with my whole family settin on the front porch pickin and grinnin. I think it is fitting for my Cairn.
KShep Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Great thread- I have to contribute even though it's really old! Ripley's Theme Song From Best in Show... You can substitute "made the Norwich merrier" with "made the highlands merrier" (pronounced hee-lands in my version) @Idaho- I love yours! My dad is Scottish (born and raised in Glasgow). He, ironically, raised Shar Peis with Scottish names (e.g. Angus and Morag)
