Sam I Am Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Its Canada day today.... its a great place to live. Hurray Only one little problem... fireworks ... around 11:00 tonight. Jock hates them, so no sleeping for this Canadian couple because Jock will be celebrating with a lot of barking ! Luke Bizzy Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 It will be interesting to see how our Titan handles the pyrotechnics on Monday, our 4th of July. Our previous 2 didn't care much for it. We live on a lake and the sound really carries across from the folks blasting away on the other side. Pretty, but LOUD! Do they make ear plugs for dogs? Maybe your Jock and Titan could get through it with a pair.
pindrop Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Happy Canada Day Terrier Lover. I've been watching the events unfold online of William & Kate's visit to Canada. Canadians, as a whole, seem happy to have these young ones taking up the reins of the monarchy. I hear they are going to be opening the Calgary Stampede. Not sure how close you are to that but I can imagine the excitement of the crowds. Hope you enjoyed the fireworks and all the pageantry - poor little Jock. Sam I Am Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 Calgary is about a 3hr drive from Edmonton and yes its a big event. Especially with the royals making an appearance. Jock true to form helped celebrate Canada day with much barking, while running up and down the stairs. I landed up putting on his "special dog collar". Its a collar and leash that I only keep for times when it thunders or we have fireworks. He knows when that is put on him and I tether him to me, that all is good and he is safe. He totally calms down. So we both fell asleep with a good feeling that we are living in a safe and wonderful land with great neighbours to the south of us. kjwarnold Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Happy Canada Day! It's great that Jock responds so well to his special collar. Kirby had one, too, and I should have used it last night when the fireworks started here last night. We've got fireworks going all weekend, so I guess I might as well just put it on him as soon as it's dark. Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Idaho Cairns Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Happy "Canada Day" to my neighbors to the North! I absolutely love Canadians, we have had the pleasure both in our trips to Canada and by wintering with Canadians in Arizona and have found them to a be a lovely bunch of folks to associate with and be around! Polite to a fault, fun, laid back, easy going, generous, and kind all are adjectives that come to mind when I think of the Canadians I have met over the years. So, you celebrate a job well done up there today!
Islander Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Thanks Idaho! I would love to visit your part of the world someday. Well, Gus must be the most insensitive dog ever; he didn't bat an eyelid when the fireworks started last night. Sometimes we hike near a rifle range, and the big dog gets nervy when shots are fired in the distance, she's ready to head back to the car. But Gus doesn't even appear to notice the noise! Have a great long weekend!
janis Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Happy Canada Day for Tennessee! We had folks shooting off fireworks last night (I'm sure tonight will be no different) and Kirby just barked every time they sent off a blast. I walked him out on the leash last night about the time 3 Roman Candles went off and lit up the sky (I love Fireworks!), Kirby was so funny! He stopped short gave a weird bark and growled with every fiber of his being. I picked him up (no mean feat - he is 20# and a little long) and he stopped growling, but he was on alert! They sure don't enjoy any disturbance in The Force do they?! I think he's related to Yoda!
